Why Microsoft Should Pick Up Evolution Studios

Driveclub-4

Earlier this month Microsoft announced that it would be closing down Lionhead Studios, the developers behind the Fable series. And shortly afterward it was reported that Sony was trying to hire some Lionhead employees right away, and in a surprise announcement that Sony will be closing Evolution Studios. Here’s what Sony had to say on this matter:

Regular reviews take place throughout SCE Worldwide Studios, ensuring that the resources that we have in such a competitive landscape can create and produce high quality, innovative and commercially viable projects.

As part of this process we have reviewed and assessed all current projects and plans for the short and medium term and have decided to make some changes to the European studios structure.

As a result, it has been decided that Evolution Studio will close.

It is regrettable that this decision will lead to compulsory redundancies. We accept that this decision will mean that we risk losing high calibre staff but by focusing on other Studios that already have exciting new projects in development we believe we will be in a stronger position going forward and able to offer the best possible content of the highest quality for our consumers.

Where possible we will try to reallocate people onto other projects. If appropriate opportunities are not possible within the company, we will assist staff in any way we can, including speaking with local employers and with other development companies.

Evolution has been an important part of SCE Worldwide Studios for over 10 years – working on ground-breaking racing titles like WRC, Motorstorm and DRIVECLUB.

This decision should not take anything away from the great work that Evolution has produced.

So it makes me wonder if Microsoft should take a page out of Sony’s playbook and hire Evolution employees? So here I am writing my thoughts on why Microsoft should pick up Evolution Studios. Now, one of the biggest reasons as to why I think that Microsoft should start trying to hire employees from Evolution Studios is because they’re a strong background in racing games, which can really help the Forza series (not that it needs much help) and who knows? It might even help pave the way for an entirely new branch of games for Forza, much like how Forza Horizon has helped the franchise. It makes the most sense as to where those who worked for Evolution Studios would be working on given their history of racing games.

Another reason that they should pick up Evolution Studios is to possibly create something entirely new in the racing genre of gaming. A whole new franchise that’s not connected to the Forza series at all. Then they would have potentially two main racing series in their arsenal. Evolution Studios had a small number of employees, about forty to sixty is all. And if they pick up the majority of them, they can create more games in the style of the other series that they worked on. Even if they only get a handful of employees from Evolution Studios, they will have a heap of new talent in their pockets to put towards future games.

Some have said that it almost seems to be planned that both Lionsgate Studios and Evolution Studios to both close down so close in time to one another, I personally feel like it’s just coincidence. Either way, I feel that Microsoft needs to react quickly to this news, in order to capitalize on this. What do you think of Sony closing down Evolution Studios? What was your favorite game that they made? (mines easily going to be Motorstorm) Please let us know what you think in the comments below!

Didn’t they just shut down Lionhead the other day? So why would they pick up a studio which last game’s was a catastrophic failure? Especially when they already have Turn 10 making the best racig game around.

Hyperbole much evolutions last game wasn’t a catastrophic failure it sold over 2 million and it still sees new free and paid expansions to this day. Yes their mp servers were bad at launch but they were completely fixed in like a month or so which was a heck of a lot quicker then the mcc whose mp servers were broken for a good 4 plus months. Microsoft would be smart to hire some evolution people because their extremely talented and know how to make good games.

Personally I would love to see a motor storm type game or a off road arcade style game for Xbox. Look at how well arcade style games are doing right now with rocket league and track mania turbo.

I guess they could use them as labor at Turn10, which is a far more talented studio than Evolution ever was.

See, this is the problem with “so-called gaming journalists” today; They don’t know wtf they’re talking about!

“Mike Smith” (the composer of this ridiculous piece), doesn’t play racing games! He thinks Forza Motorsport & Forza Horizon are the same games. They aren’t! Forza Motorsport is a realistic Racer on Real World Tracks, with Actual Real Racing History & Commentary. Forza Horizon is an Open World Racer, in a real City or Area, driving all over the damn place unrealistically at times. Unrealistically, meaning at times driving through cornfields & amazing jumps, also, realistically racing through the streets; all in an Open World.

If you’ve played Forza Games, you’d know Drive Club absolutely sucked and M$ already has 2 different driving games!

Why didn’t Sony just move Evolution personnel over to Polyphony Digital? BECAUSE, Sony doesn’t want GT7 to absolutely friggin Suck like Drive Club & MotorStorm!

What are you smoking? You are in the same camp as the people who say Driveclub was an utter failure (even if you never said it this time last week). Yeah, the highest selling next gen exclusive console game to date was a hemorrhage lol.
Xbone would do great to get its first actual next gen racing game don’t you think? Guess which one of these is the mind blowing looking game worthy of a title like “next gen” or should I say current gen? *hint its not the 1080p last gen game that still can’t do dynamic day and night and weather like Gran Turismo 6 could last gen.

1st. Drive Club isn’t Close to being the “highest selling next generation exclusive”! Halo 5 is, by a Mile.

2nd. No company closes the doors of a company selling more than the competition! Drive Club was such a disaster, it Never made the E3 Presentation Stage for Sony & The PS4, Ever! Not in 3 Years.

Drive Club was such a disaster, Sony fired more than half the staff after its 1 year delayed release.

Drive Club had a weather overlay. It didn’t have weather at launch, weather was added and meant absolutely nothing! Forza Motorsport 6, has weather built in that upon hitting a puddle at high speeds would pull your car left or right. Forza Horizon 2 did weather better & it is Open World at 1080p 30fps, with over 200 cars at launch!

3rd. Drive Club was soo last-gen, it is 30fps!
        Has Invisible Walls!
        No Tuning!
        No Real World Tracks!
        No American Cars!
        Sub 50 Cars at launch!
        Awful AI!
        No Paint Customizations!
        I could go on…

See, I know these things about Racers because I’ve been playing since Night Driver & Indy 500 on the Atari.

Sites like DualShockers & Abriael, this site & Mike Smith allow Sony to temporarily get away with Indie Games and crap games like Drive Club & The Order 1886.

Lastly, that picture of Forza Motorsport 6, is a clear indication of the reality that you have Never Played Forza Motorsport 6!

Yeah but has there been any news of that Lionhead hiring even that Sony announced? It was supposed to take place last week on Mon 14th March. It looked like good PR but did anything even happen then?
