Why We Are Hyped for Ratchet & Clank On PS4

April has some really promising looking games coming out on various systems. Yes I’m excited for Quantum Break, Dark Souls 3, and Star Fox Zero as much as anyone else but there is another game launching that I’m even more excited for. I am of course talking about the new Ratchet & Clank on PlayStation 4.

I feel like the new Ratchet & Clank on PS4 is flying under the radar a bit and it really shouldn’t be. If you haven’t seen this game yet watch the trailer above to see just how gorgeous this game is. I was late to the franchise as the first Ratchet game I played was Tools of Destruction on the PS3. I was blown away at all much like a Pixar movie it looked at the time and I proceeded to play every Ratchet & Clank game that came out after that point. I was really excited when the Ratchet & Clank Collection came out as I was able to play the games I missed on the PS2 now on the PS3 with enhanced graphics.

Now I do have to agree that later on in the PS3 lifecycle Insomniac started to release some not so great Ratchet titles. Ratchet & Clank All 4 One was a four player co-op game and Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault was a multiplayer tower defense title. Ratchet has always been best as a single player title so they started to lose myself and other Ratchet fans with those 2 titles. Thankfully Into the Nexus came out and started to show signs that Insomniac still knew what fans wanted from a Ratchet & Clank game.

Ratchet & Clank on PS4 is a remake of the original Ratchet & Clank that released on the PS2. If you missed the key word there it was “remake”. This isn’t just improving the graphics a little this is a full on new game built for the PS4. The graphics are some of the best I’ve ever seen in a video game and the story won’t be exactly the same as the original. There will be some changes to the areas and enemies you fight as well as the weapons you have at your disposal. Insomniac has always been great at coming up with awesome weapons in their games and some of my favorites return in this remake. Mr. Zurkon which is a robot bodyguard you can summon returns and is just as funny as ever. One of the new weapons I’m excited to use is the Pixelizer which turns enemies into pixels when shot.

The game is of course also based on the Ratchet & Clank movie that is also coming out in April. Like Insomniac Games likes to say it is a game based on a movie based on a game. As such you can expect the game and the movie to share a lot of things and maybe even tie certain things together. I know I’m excited to play it and then go watch the movie with my family a couple weeks later. The other part I’m excited for is that this Ratchet & Clank only costs $40. Yes to some people that is worrisome because they feel like the game won’t be a full length game or such but I have faith in Insomniac Games and feel like they just want to get the game into as many player’s hands as possible.

Ratchet & Clank is my most anticipated game for April and I hope this has shared some reasons why. The game is gorgeous, affordable, and looks to have that same great gameplay and humor that that franchise has always been known for. Seriously put this one on your radar and give it a shot when it comes out on PS4 on April 12. Are you already excited for the new Ratchet & Clank? Has the franchise never appealed to you?
