Sony Should Never Make A New Uncharted Without Naughty Dog

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is due for release on May 10th, and it’s the final installment of the series and also the last one made by the creators of the franchise,  Naughty Dog.  The first game in the series was launched back in 2007 on the PlayStation 3, to high praise and so Nathan Drake’s journey continued and for nine years Naughty Dog made these games, it’s going to be the end of an era for Uncharted. So let’s take a look at why Sony should never make a new Uncharted without Naughty Dog.

Sony hasn’t announced yet which developer will be taking over the hit video game series for any new installments. But it almost seems unfair to any developer that takes up the mantle, as they would have so much pressure not to mention that they would even possibly be hated for not making a game that lives up to the previous standard of the games. Whichever developer ends up doing it will have to do a lot of work to make the fans happy.

This is just like when Bungie announced that they were no longer going to be making any Halo games. I remember how upset that I was, but here we are six years later and I’m still getting Halo games and now Destiny games, so maybe, in the long run, this will work out for the best. But a lot of it will be dependent upon who the new developer will be. Sony will be hard pressed to find a developer that can live up to what Naughty Dog has accomplished over this last decade with the franchise.

As for some ideas they can do for the new games, they can easily make a spin-off with an all new character and go forward, and make easily another trilogy. You can even have characters from the first four games show up throughout the new spin-off series, and maybe make a Nathan Drake come back as an older character towards the end? It would be an interesting way to tie the games together. As well as open up new ideas for movie sequels that I’m sure will follow next year’s adaptation depending on how well it’s received.

But, with this being Naughty Dog’s farewell to the series, it’s almost a perfect end to a great series and in my opinion, any new Uncharted games without Naughty Dog scream “cash grabs”. Now I get it, it’s a console exclusive and it very well may be a vital one for PlayStation to keep for the console war. Many consider Uncharted to be one of the main franchises to have a PlayStation for.

After over a decade of working on a specific series, it makes sense that the developer just wants to create a whole new franchise and that they want to move on from the Uncharted game series. They did make Jak and Daxter games for only a certain amount of years and they just want to see what their next game series that they will make will be. I’ve heard that they might be making a Last of Us sequel. I’m sure whatever the outcome, players will line up for their next game.

I really am excited to see what happens next with this and if Naughty Dog isn’t involved, I want to know what their next game will be. What do you think of all of this? What would you like to see happen? Who would you like to see developer the next game in the franchise? Please let us know your thoughts in the comments below! And until next time, keep gaming!
