Both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One have had some pretty good exclusive games this generation. Games like Sunset Overdrive, Infamous Second Son, Forza Motorsport 6 and more. All of those have received some great reviews but the one that stands above the rest is the PS4 exclusive Bloodborne. To date it is the highest rated exclusive between the two platforms not counting remasters. Bloodborne has an average review score of 92 according to Metacritic making it not only the highest rated exclusive of this gen but one of the highest rated games of this gen period. However, could Bloodborne be about to hand that crown off to another game?
That game I’m referring to is none other than Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End of course which is only a month away from launch now on the PlayStation 4. The question is: Will Uncharted 4 beat out Bloodborne and become the highest rated exclusive of this generation? In my personal opinion I think it will and here is why I believe that. The main reason is because it’s being made by Naughty Dog who has been on a incredible roll with putting out not only highly rated games but also games that have gone on to become huge Game of the Year winners. Going back to the original Uncharted on the PS3 the Metacritic scores for their games are: Uncharted 1 – 88, Uncharted 2 – 96, Uncharted 3 – 92, The Last of Us – 95. Those are some pretty incredible scores and not many other studios have had that impressive of a streak.
Of those four games Uncharted 2 and The Last of Us went on to win the most Game of the Year awards of any other game released in both 2009 and 2013. Uncharted 3 also won some Game of the Year awards in 2011 but it wasn’t the big winner that year. Now the thing that both Uncharted 2 and The Last of Us have in common is that both Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley played a big part in creating both of them. They both worked on Uncharted 2 and then moved on to creating The Last of Us and didn’t play a part in making Uncharted 3. Some people think that is why Uncharted 3 was viewed widely as not being as good as Uncharted 2. With both of them in charge of The Last of Us they produced another impressively reviewed game and it went on to win over 200 GOTY awards. Both Druckmann and Straley are once again in charge of Uncharted 4 so if you go by their past work I’d say Uncharted 4 could certainly become the highest rated exclusive this generation.
I also believe Uncharted 4 will claim that title as all the impressions from the press who have gotten to play it have been nothing but positive. Naughty Dog isn’t just using the same formula again and instead of opted to change a lot of things about the game. The environments are a lot bigger than they have ever been encouraging players to explore more rather than just go from point A to point B like past Uncharted games did. The gameplay also allows you to go in guns blazing or be more stealthy if you choose. You can tell Naughty Dog learned a lot from working on The Last of Us and is now bringing many of those things to Uncharted 4. Hey if they worked so well in the past why not bring them to Uncharted 4 right? The graphics in the game are just mind blowing as well. I don’t think any other console game looks anywhere close to as impressive as what we’ve seen from Uncharted 4. Naughty Dog has always gotten the most out of the PlayStation in the past and It’s looking like their going to do it again.
So those are just a few reasons why I think Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will beat out Bloodborne and become the highest rated exclusive this generation. If I had to make a prediction I’d say Uncharted 4 ends up with at least a 94 Metacritic score which would be very impressive. We are only a month away from finding out. What do you think? Do you think Uncharted 4 will claim that title? Why or why not? Tell us in the comments below.
