E3 2016 is fast approaching and this year’s show aims to bring lots of surprises for gamers. The weeks leading up to it are usually slow as the developers and publishers try to save all of their biggest announcements for E3. I thought it would be interesting to take some guesses as to what Sony could announce at E3 this year to claim yet another victory there. It will be hard if not impossible to top what they did last year when they announced Shenmue 3, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and showed the long absent The Last Guardian. Here are our 5 predictions for announcements Sony can make to win E3 2016.
1. Full on Backwards Compatibility
Yes the chance of this happening are slim to none but if Sony were to come out and announce that the PS4 will now play your PS3 games it would be huge. Microsoft claimed major headlines when they did it last year but I feel like Sony could make an even bigger splash. If they came out and announced some major games both first party and third party that would work starting that same day it would be a huge win for them. Many gamers including myself would love to have access to our PS3 libraries without having to pay for PlayStation Now. Small chance of this happening but who knows after what Sony announced last year.
2. No Man’s Sky VR confirmed and will be a launch title
Another huge announcement would be if Sony finally announced that No Man’s Sky will work with the upcoming PlayStation VR. No Man’s Sky will be launching right after E3 this year and this would make even more people interested in the game. What would be even bigger is if Sony announced that the VR version will be ready for the PlayStation VR launch in October. No Man’s Sky would be reason enough for many to jump on the PlayStation VR wagon as the promise of exploring limitless planets in VR would just be too awesome.
3. Crash Bandicoot Returns
We all know PlayStation fans want to see the classic PlayStation mascot return to the company where he was born. Everytime one of these gaming expos comes around PlayStation fans keep hoping that Crash coming back will be one of the announcements. It hasn’t happened yet but plenty of rumors have been going around that a studio is working on a new Crash game for the PS4. It probably isn’t Naughty Dog but what if it was? What if Naughty Dog has had another team working on Crash all this time? It would be a huge announcement to see Crash back with the Studio that created him. Even if it isn’t Naughty Dog any studio making a new Crash Bandicoot for the PS4 would be huge and would bring plenty of applause.
4. God of War 4 Announced with a Gameplay Trailer
This isn’t a matter of if it will be announced but rather when. We all know that a new God of War is in development at Sony Santa Monica Studios as Cory Barlog said as much when he let it slip back at PlayStation Experience 2014. Some recent leaked concept art points to God of War 4 focusing on Norse mythology this time now that Kratos has killed the Greek gods. Santa Monica still hasn’t put out a game on the PS4 yet so it’s time that we finally get to see their project. God of War has always made our jaws drop when we’ve seen them for the first time and I’m sure the first entry on PS4 will be no different.
5. Red Dead Redemption 2 Timed Exclusive on PS4
The last thing and maybe the craziest announcement of these 5 would be if Rockstar and Sony announced Red Dead Redemption 2 and made it a timed exclusive to the PS4. Red Dead Redemption was a huge hit when it came out back in 2010 and we’ve all been waiting on a next one. GTA5 has been out several years now so it’s about time we found out what the next big Rockstar game is. We saw Rise of the Tomb Raider become a timed exclusive for the Xbox One so why should it be out of the realm of possibility that Rockstar would side with Sony? It’s a wild prediction but again we’ve seen crazier things happen.
So there are our 5 announcement we think Sony could make to win E3 2016 this year. We are only around 2 months away now and I can’t wait to see what goes down this year. Do you agree with our choices? What do you think Sony could announce to “win” E3 2016? Tell us in the comments below.
