We are getting closer and closer to finally getting our hands on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End after all these delays. I’ve been disappointed every time that the game got delayed but I know that it was in the best interest of the game so that it can be as good as it can possibly be. The final game will be another masterpiece from Naughty Dog that I’m sure of. I even think that it will be the Game of the Year for 2016 from most outlets. Let me tell you why.
You need only look at the past few games Naughty Dog has made to see why it’s easy to say Uncharted 4 will be GOTY. Both Uncharted 2 and The Last of Us ran away with the GOTY awards in the years they released (2009, 2013). Uncharted 3 also won some GOTY awards but nowhere near as many as the other two. A big reason for this I believe is because Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley didn’t play a part in Uncharted 3. Both of them worked on Uncharted 2 and then moved on to The Last of Us and now are in charge of Uncharted 4. That alone gives me plenty of confidence that Uncharted 4 will follow along the same route.
Another reason why I think Uncharted 4 will be GOTY in 2016 is because when I look at the competition this year I don’t see anything right now that I can say for sure can compete with it. Dark Souls 3 is the only game released thus far this year that has been praised enough to have a chance but it doesn’t even have a 90 average review score. Usually 90+ rated games win GOTY although Fallout 4 did win a good amount this past year with a high 80. When I look at the rest of the games coming out in 2016 I don’t see a lot that I can definitely say will get high scores or be a GOTY contender. Deus Ex Human Revolution could be one but beyond that everything else is more like “well that could possibly turn out well”. Gears of War hasn’t been in the GOTY discussion since the first one. We still don’t know enough about No Man’s Sky to say for sure or not that will be. Shooters like Titanfall 2 or Call of Duty don’t usually get nominated as they are primarily multiplayer focused games. Naughty Dog is kind of like Bethesda in the way that when they release a game you know it’s going to have a high chance of winning GOTY.
Everything that we have also heard about Uncharted 4 from the press that have got to play it has been nothing but positive as well. Naughty Dog has made a lot of welcome changes to the game apparently making the world and game bigger and longer. The visuals in the game are as good as anything we’ve ever seen on consoles and I have no doubts that all of this will be backed up by a great store. Naughty Dog learned a lot from The Last of Us and are carrying many of those lessons over to this finale of the Uncharted franchise. Naughty Dog has also said that they think Uncharted 4 has the best opening of any game they have ever made. That is saying a lot as the openings of both Uncharted 2 and The Last of Us were some of the best openings of any game ever. The opening of The Last of Us had me in tears in the first few minutes so imagining something better than that boggles my mind.
We have only 3 weeks to go to find out how Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End turns out and find out whether for sure it will be a GOTY contender. In my mind I already know it will be and expect nothing less from Naughty Dog. They have taken their time making sure this turned out well and that it delivers an unforgettable experience. I believe come the end of the year when all of the GOTY awards are handed out Uncharted 4 will stand above all the other games of 2016. What do you think? Do you agree that Uncharted 4 will be GOTY in 2016? If not what game do you think could beat it out? Tell us in the comments below.
