E3 2016 is still happening but the major sources of news, the press conferences, have come and gone. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, EA, Ubisoft, and Bethesda brought all of their fans updates on previously announced projects as well as brand new surprise announcements. As the days go by media outlets and fanboys will argue as to who “won” E3 just like every year. I have my opinion like anyone else but really E3 is the kind of event where fans of every company win.
The big 3 console manufactures Sony, Microsoft, and yes even Nintendo brought interesting and amazing new content to the show. Nintendo didn’t have a lot to show as they skipped on showing the NX but they did wow people with footage of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Microsoft gave their fans new updates on Gears of War 4, ReCore, Forza Horizon 3, and more while Sony bombed the place with the likes of God of War, Days Gone, Spider Man and so on.
EA brought more Battlefield 1 while Ubisoft showed the hilarious South Park: The Fractured Butt Hole. Bethesda gave us Dishonored 2 gameplay and a remaster of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I don’t care what you are a fan of because if you look at just the few things I listed above you’ll see great gaming experiences no matter what platform you game on.
E3 is a show for fans of gaming not for those fans who watch it just so they can have more fuel for their petty fanboy console wars or PC master race talk. I look at the wide array of games on show at this year’s event and my wallet literally cries at how much stuff I want to play on the various systems. As a fan of gaming I’m finally going to get to play The Last Guardian on my PS4. As a fan of gaming I’m going to get to play this beautiful new Legend of Zelda game on either my Wii U or the NX.
As a fan of gaming I’m going to get to play the next chapter of the Gears of War franchise. Finally as a fan of gaming I’m going to get some awesome VR games like Star Wars Battlefront and Batman VR. That is what E3 is about. Giving all of us who are fans of gaming something to look forward to not just in the short term future but also in the next few years so that we can be informed of what is on the way.
That is why as I look back on the events of E3 2016 all I have to say is that all of us true gamers were the winners at the end of the day. Let those fanboys have their arguments because while they are doing that us true fans of gaming will be enjoying all of the fantastic new games that E3 2016 brought us.
