If you’re a keen, skilled gamer, you might have thought about taking your passion one step further. Rather than continuing to game and beating all the latest titles, you could turn this love into a full time career. There are plenty of possibilities to consider here depending on your skill, knowledge and experience. So, let’s have a look at some of the different options and find out if any of them suit you. To do this, we’re going to look at some of the benefits and disadvantages of each option.

Game Tester

Do you love playing games so much that you actually want to do it all day every day? You might want to think about becoming a game tester. Game tester jobs are often advertised throughout the years on various IT sites. The advantage of this job is simple. You’ll be paid for playing games but that’s not all. You will also get to see the latest games, often years before they are released. There are a few disadvantages. First, more game developers are now running beta servers for online games instead and there’s no payment offers. Secondly, this isn’t classed as a high skilled job so pay is close to minimum wage. Third, it’s difficult to get a secure contract as a games tester. Most developers use freelancers and very rarely take someone on with a permanent contract. Unless, they have other skills that could be useful. However, it can be a way to get your foot in the door. Finally, it’s probably not as fun as you hoped. Game testers are used to explore any glitches or issues. So for a sandbox world, you might just be walking around testing that you don’t suddenly fall through the floor. Don’t worry there are better options.

Become A Game Creator

Some of the biggest games last year were developed by a small team that started off working in their own home. These indie developers were then discovered by big studios and the rest, as they say, is history. Our favorite example of this type of underdog story would be Hello Games, best known for creating No Man’s Sky. While the game didn’t even closely resemble the expectations of the buying public, it was still impressive. So, if you have coding knowledge, it is possible that you can become just as big by creating your own game. To do this, you need to think about looking at a game developer software list. This is a great place to start and will give you something to work off once you find the right platform for you.

Review And Write

Or maybe you just want to share your opinion with the world on what the best and worst games are. There are plenty of websites that hire writers throughout the year such as IGN and Gamespot. Or, you can set yourself up as a freelance writer. All you need to do is make sure that you have a unique voice and an interesting perspective. Review and write about as many games as you can, keeping quality standards high. Do this, and you just might gain a full time position as a reviewer for one of the bigger sites. Or, you could live off your own name.

Any one of these possibilities could be ideal and will help you further explore your passion for gaming.
