During Activision Blizzard’s Q2 2017 Q&A, some interesting information was revealed after a caller asked about nostalgic titles.
Activision knew there was an audience there for Crash, but didn’t know if it was a mass audience or just a vocal minority that really wanted Crash to return. They said the only way to find out was to take the risk, and just release it. Crash ended up surpassing all expectations which shows the risk was worth it.
They went on to explain that releasing Crash Bandicoot: N-Sane Trilogy was another example of them listening to their community and fans by offering great content to where they want to engage. They also revealed that they are considering other old IP’s that could be remastered.
Activision explained that this isn’t new for them as they released Modern Warfare Remastered just last year. Remastering titles is something that has Activision’s attention, and while there’s no new announcements, Activision said “you can be confident there will be more activity like this in the future with more IP’s”
There’s also discussions further than remastering old IP’s, discussions are already underway about bringing back old IP’s as “reborn” series with Skylanders on mobile being an example.
