PlayStation Plus January 2018 Predictions

psplus

2017 is wrapping up and this year we saw PlayStation Plus on the PlayStation 4 start to resemble what it looked like late in the PS3 generation. We got great hit games for free such as Infamous: Second Son, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Life is Strange, Until Dawn and many more. Yes some months were better than others but that is always how PlayStation Plus has been.

As we head toward 2018 it will be interesting to see how Sony continues to enrich the Plus service to make it more enticing. We’ve started to see them begin offering bonus games such as That’s You or even some PlayStation VR titles like Until Dawn: Rush of Blood and RIGS. In this piece we are going to make a few predictions on some titles that could appear in the PlayStation Plus lineup in the first month of 2018.

1. Full Throttle Remastered

Full Throttle Remastered

While this may be an unpopular choice for those who hate anything not AAA, Full Throttle Remastered is actually one of the best adventure games of the past. Originally created back in 1995 by LucasArts, Full Throttle Remastered is a classic graphic adventure game from industry legend Tim Schafer, telling the story of Ben Throttle butt-kicking leader of biker gang the Polecats, who gets caught up in a tale of Motorcycles, Mayhem and Murder. The game has been beautifully remastered and even runs at 4K on the PS4 Pro. The reason why I think this could be free next month is because each of the previous remasters from this studio, Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle, were made free on PlayStation Plus the January following their release. It is Cross-Buy with the Vita so it might not even take of of the two PS4 slots for January.

2. Ratchet & Clank

Ratchet & Clank has been going strong on PlayStation since the PS2 days and back in early 2016 we got the latest great entry in this franchise. Insomniac Games fully remade the original Ratchet & Clank for the PS4 and it turned out to be one of the best games on the platform currently. With great weapons, characters, worlds, humor and a beautiful art style this one really stands out in the PS4 portfolio. We’ve seen this game free on PlayStation Plus in some other regions and we’ve seen before that sometimes that titles make their way over to the US and EU lineups later on. Making this title free for all Plus members would be a great way to kick off 2018.

3. Darkest Dungeon

darkest dungeon

Sometimes we see titles that are quite popular with those who work at PlayStation come to the service so that more people will discover them. Darkest Dungeon I think could be one such title that we see this happen with. Many at PlayStation have raved about this game and for good reason. It’s a gothic roguelike RPG dungeon crawler about the psychological stresses of adventuring. You will lead a band of four heroes on a perilous side-scrolling descent, dealing with a prodigious number of threats to their bodily health, and worse, a relentless assault on their mental fortitude. Darkest Dungeon has received tons of praise on both PC and PS4 from both media and players. More people need to check this game out.

4. Mortal Kombat X

mkxl

How about a over the top violent fighting game to kick off 2018? Mortal Kombat X is one of the best entries in the franchise yet with a great story mode, a great roster of fighters and a great assortment of modes to play. MKX is several years old now and while I’m sure most who wanted to play it have there are always those who are still just buying the current gen consoles who might’ve not played this great game yet.

Those are our predictions for some titles we might see on PlayStation Plus in January 2018. Let us know in the comments what titles you’d like to see next month.
