E3 2018 is over and it was another great show overall. If you missed any of the news last week these recap posts are here to catch you up on all the biggest announcements from this year’s show.
PlayStation had a somewhat weird show this year announcing beforehand that they would be mostly focusing on four of their major upcoming exclusive titles. Their show had a bit of a rough start due to them moving the audience to a different area after the first game reveal but after that it was nothing but games. Here is everything that was announced.
The Last of Us: Part II:
Sony kicked the show off by showing what is probably their biggest upcoming game, The Last of Us: Part II from Naughty Dog. We got to see an older Ellie and some new characters in a scene before getting to see gameplay for the first time showing Ellie is not only older but she is also a lot more deadlier. The gameplay and AI has seen some major improvements from the last game and this gameplay caused it to be one of the most talked about games at this year’s expo. No date was given but I’d say 2019 is a safe bet for this one.
Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII Trailer and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Free on PS+:
During the intermission, Sony gave us a new trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII that showed that four maps from previous Black Ops titles will be getting remastered for Black Ops IIII. Not only that but they also announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops III is free on PlayStation Plus for the next month making it the first time ever that a Call of Duty game has been offered on any free game service.
Destiny 2: Forsaken:
After that we were treated to a new Story Trailer for Destiny 2: Forsaken which is the new major expansion launching on September 4. The new trailer features a major death so don’t watch it if you don’t want to be spoiled.
Ghost of Tsushima:
When the intermission ended we were given a look at the second of Sony’s four games, Ghost of Tsushima. This is the next title from Sucker Punch and is an open world samurai action game. The visuals in this game are insane and the combat is looking pretty good as well. This gameplay is from a side mission in the game so we can’t wait to see what the main story missions look like. Again no date was given but 2019 could be a safe bet.
Trover Saves the Universe:
Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland returns yet again for a new game called Trover Saves the Universe. It has his same great comedy we’ve come to expect and looks to be a platformer of sorts. The game will launch on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR later this year.
One of the surprise announcements of this show as the new title from Remedy called Control. The game was under the codename P7 until this show and is a new third-person, action-adventure game from the studio that brought you Max Payne, Alan Wake and Quantum Break. Look for this title on PS4 and Xbox One in 2019.
Resident Evil 2 Remake:
Right after Control we got another huge surprise announcement as Resident Evil 2 Remake finally made it’s debut. We’ve been waiting years for this one ever since Capcom announced that they were working on it and it didn’t disappoint. The game is running on the same RE Engine that Resident Evil 7 ran on and it looks great. Leon and Claire make their return and what’s even better is we don’t have much longer before we can play it. Resident Evil 2 launches on PS4 and Xbox One on January 25, 2019.
Kingdom Hearts 3:
Square Enix debuted the third trailer of E3 2018 for Kingdom Hearts 3 at the PlayStation Showcase. This one gave us our first look at the Pirates of the Caribbean world and Jack Sparrow. We also got our first look at Kairi’s new look in Kingdom Hearts 3. In addition there is a limited edition Kingdom Hearts 3 PS4 Pro on the way and a Kingdom Hearts All-in-One Package available now on the PlayStation Store that gives you every Kingdom Hearts game for $100. Kingdom Hearts 3 launches on PS4 and Xbox One on January 29, 2019.
After that we got a lengthy new trailer for Death Stranding that showed off several new characters and gave us our first look at gameplay. While we still don’t know what the game exactly is it does look very interesting and Hideo Kojima never disappoints. We still don’t have a date for it either but hopefully we’ll be playing it in 2019.
Another surprise announcement was that Team Ninja is working on Nioh 2 and we got a teaser trailer for the game. The new game will let you create your own character and give you the ability to wield Oni abilities.
Sony ended the show by giving us a new look at Marvel’s Spider-Man from Insomniac Games. The new gameplay introduced us to the Sinister Six who are made up of Electro, Scorpion, Vulture, Rhino, Mr. Negative and a mysterious unknown six villain that has yet to be revealed. The game is launching on PS4 on September 7 so we don’t have much longer before we can play this one.
That was it from PlayStation at E3 2018. Let us know in the comments what you’re favorite announcement was.
