December 2018 NPD Results: Nintendo Dominates While Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Smashes the Best Selling Exclusive Game Record

The December 2018 NPD report for the US is in and what a month it was for Nintendo. The Nintendo Switch was the best selling console in December by far and also ends 2018 as the best selling console in the US for the whole year. Also for the first time since 2009, Nintendo generated the most software revenue of any publisher in 2018.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was the best selling game in December and instantly became the 5th best selling game of 2018 leaping ahead of games like God of War and Spider-Man in just its first month. Keep in mind this also isn’t counting digital sales numbers. Not only that but it also set a new launch month dollar sales record beating the previous holder which was Halo Reach all the way back in 2010. You can see the highest launch month totals below.
