Resident Evil 2 Has Shipped 3 Million Units Worldwide in the First Week

Resident Evil 2 released this past week on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC and by all accounts it is off to a fantastic start for Capcom. They have announced today that Resident Evil 2 has shipped 3 million units worldwide in the first week.

That puts it ahead of Resident Evil 7 in the same time span which shipped 2.5 million units worldwide in the first week. Now these are shipped numbers and not sold numbers but I think the game is probably selling through a great deal of those copies. Capcom also announced that cumulative sales of the Resident Evil franchise have now passed 88 million units since the first title released in 1996. The original Resident Evil 2 went on to sell a total of 4.96 million units which put it as the fourth best selling title in the franchise. Capcom also noted that Resident Evil 7 has sold 6 million units since it launched in January 2017 and they hope to achieve similar long term sales for Resident Evil 2.

Resident Evil 2 has also been a critical success earning a 91 Metacritic rating based on over 70 reviews. Personally saying, I’m really happy this game has done so well by all accounts. Let us know in the comments if you picked the game up yet.
