NetherRealm Studios announced Mortal Kombat 11 at The Game Awards at the end of 2018 and since then has been steadily revealing more of the roster that fans can pick from this go around. So far we’ve seen some expected favorites confirmed such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, and Raiden. We’ve also had some characters that were missing in action in Mortal Kombat X be confirmed to be returning such as Baraka, Jade, Kabal, and Skarlet.
With twelve combatants confirmed so far it got me thinking; which characters would I most like to see return to the franchise for this latest entry. I dug into the Mortal Kombat games of the past to come up with the following list of characters who I’d most like to see in a current generation Mortal Kombat.
For my first pick I’m going with a character who hasn’t been missing so much as one who I couldn’t imagine going an entry without. Reptile first appeared in the original Mortal Kombat as a secret enemy character and then made his playable debut in Mortal Kombat II. He has been in many entries since and last appeared in the previous entry, Mortal Kombat X. In the story mode of Mortal Kombat X, Reptile never died so it makes sense for him to return in some new way in Mortal Kombat 11. Also he’s a fan favorite along with Scorpion and Sub-Zero so I’d be surprised if he doesn’t make the roster.
The next character I’d like to see return in Mortal Kombat 11 is the four-armed female Shokan, Sheeva. Now we don’t have confirmation of Goro returning this time so maybe instead of him appearing we can see the return of Sheeva who last appeared in Mortal Kombat 2011 and skipped Mortal Kombat X. She is another character that survived the story of Mortal Kombat 2011 after being relocated to Earthrealm by the Elder Gods. She does play similar to Goro or Kintaro but her fireballs have always been a bit stronger and she can make the ground shake without leaping into the air like those other two.
This one is someone I feel a lot of Mortal Kombat fans have been waiting to be playable again for some time. Fujin is the God of Wind who first appeared in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero as a boss and made his playable debut in Mortal Kombat 4. While Fujin has appeared in several recent Mortal Kombat games such as Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 2011, he has not been playable since Mortal Kombat: Armageddon back on the PlayStation 2. I think it’s time to bring the Wind God back and let players unleash new versions of this tornado and wind attacks.
My next pick is none other than Havik who is from the Chaosrealm of Mortal Kombat. Havik made his first appearance in Mortal Kombat Deception back on the PlayStation 2 but hasn’t been playable since Armageddon on that same platform. In those games Havik always worked with whoever best furthered his goals versus being pure bad or good character. He last made appearances in Mortal Kombat 2011 and the comic series for Mortal Kombat X. His move set was always pretty unique as he can snap his limbs in different directions to both heal himself and unleash cool attacks on the opponent. I’m not sure how big of a fanbase he has but he’s yet another character who has been out of the spotlight that would be fun to see return.
Fans know Noob Saibot quite well as he has been in the franchise since Mortal Kombat II where he appeared as a unplayable hidden character. He was first playable in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and has been in most of the entries since then. He was last playable in Mortal Kombat 2011 and he was mentioned in Mortal Kombat X. For those who don’t know, Noob Saibot was the original Sub-Zero who was killed and then later returned as the vengeful revenant Noob Saibot. His most recent appearances have given him a move set built around using shadow attacks. Some fans don’t like him but he has always been one of the more iconic characters to me and I’d like to see him return after skipping the last entry.
These are just a few of the main characters I’d like to see make their return in Mortal Kombat 11. I could name a few more such as Rain, Hotaru, and Li Mei but what about you? Who are you most wanting to see on the Mortal Kombat 11 roster? Let us know in the comments.
