From Software’s new IP, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, is off to a fast start as they and publisher Activision have announced that the game has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide in the first 10 days on sale. These numbers are across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Activision vice president of product management and marketing Michelle Fonseca had this to say about Sekiro’s performance:
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has brought something very special and unique to Activision’s portfolio of games. It’s been an honor to work with From Software to help introduce a brand-new franchise to gamers around the world.
The fans have made Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice one of the most incredible game launches of 2019 thus far. The game has performed well on all platforms including PC and we’re excited by the continued support from gamers and critics alike. It has been gratifying to see the enjoyment from fans when they overcome each challenge.
They also mentioned that on launch day, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was the most viewed game on Twitch and that it had more than 631 million minutes watched during launch weekend. 1.1 billion minutes were watched on Twitch in the first week.
It’s more good news for single player games and maybe this will show Activision that those kinds of games without microtransactions can be very successful as well.
