NPD April 2019 Report: Switch Tops Hardware While Mortal Kombat 11 & Days Gone Lead Software Sales

The April 2019 NPD report for the US video game market is in and we have all the details about what the top selling hardware and software for the month were.

Total spending for the month reached $842 million which was up 1% when compared to $838 million the market made in April 2018. Hardware spending was down a lot though coming in at $160 million which is down 29% when compared to $225 million in April 2018. Software spending across consoles and PC was $427 million which was up 15% from $370 million in April 2018.

The Nintendo Switch was once again the best selling hardware for the month of April 2019 both in unit sales and dollar sales.

The software charts saw several new notable releases including Mortal Kombat 11 which was the best selling game of the month. Not only was it the best selling game but it was the best selling game on every platform it released on which includes PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It is also now the second best selling game year-to-date in the US trailing only Kingdom Hearts III.

Days Gone from Sony Interactive Entertainment and Bend Studio also had an impressive month taking the No.2 spot. The debut month sales for Days Gone rank as the 7th highest in history for a Sony published title and it is also the best selling game produced by Bend Studio in the US in lifetime revenues after just one month.

MLB The Show 19 from Sony San Diego took the No.3 spot for the month continuing to show that it is one of Sony’s most underrated exclusives every year. It is now the 10th best selling game of 2019 and the best selling sports game of 2019 year-to-date. It is also still the best selling game in franchise history on a time-aligned basis.
