Hardware spending was down a lot too coming in at $149 million which is down 20% when compared to $186 million in May 2018. Software spending across consoles and PC was $262 million which was down 11% from $302 million in April 2018.

The Nintendo Switch was once again the best selling hardware for the month of May 2019 both in unit sales and dollar sales. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sales continue to slow down as both consoles are nearing the end of their life cycle.

The software charts looked a lot like April’s when looking at the top two spots. Mortal Kombat 11 was once again the top selling game of the month. It is also now the best selling game of 2019 in the US having overtaken Kingdom Hearts III this past month. Mortal Kombat 11’s month 2 sales were also nearly double that of any other Mortal Kombat games second month. It was the best selling game on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Days Gone from Sony Interactive Entertainment and Bend Studio also had an impressive second month taking the No.2 spot once again. Days Gone is also now the 8th best selling game of 2019 in the US.

A couple new releases in May worth mentioning include Rage 2 which came in at No.4 and Team Sonic Racing which just barely made the top 20 coming in at No.19.
