Worse Than Death

Indie developer Benjamin Rivers Inc. has announced that their next game Worse Than Death will be arriving just in time for the Halloween season.

The new adventure game will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 8. The game first launched on the App Store this Summer. The game will be priced at $9.99 and will have a 20% launch week discount making it $7.99 for a limited time. You can watch a previously released trailer for the game and read more about it below.

A page-turning, creepy pulp adventure

In this follow-up to the popular indie horror game Home, players control Holly as she returns to her home town for a reason that would scare anyone — her high school reunion! It doesn’t take long for the weekend to go off the rails, and soon Holly must run from unseen horrors, hide in the shadows, and solve increasingly tricky puzzles to stay alive.

In its glowing review, the Los Angeles Times labeled the iOS release of Worse Than Death “a game with ‘Stranger Things’ vibes,” and TouchArcade called it “an incredible experience,” awarding it 4.5 out of 5 stars and listing it as one of July’s best games. The App Store itself proclaimed Worse Than Death Game of the Day, calling it, “stunning, spooky and deep.”

Hand-made, small-town horror

Developer Benjamin Rivers Inc. is a mom-and-pop shop that has been known for creating thought-provoking, story-rich games for about a decade. With Worse Than Death, it pushed its creativity — utilizing an iPad Pro to create all of the game’s high-res, comic-book-style puzzles and cutscenes by hand.

The team’s love for classic horror tales shines through the hand-crafted visuals and its fast-paced, Twin Peaks-style storyline. It’s an adventure about unearthing the sordid secrets of small towns, and Worse Than Death’s plot will keep players glued until the dramatic end.
