The Lucasfilm Games news just keeps rolling in this week as today they have announced that they are partnering with Ubisoft and developer Massive Entertainment to create a brand-new open-world Star Wars game.
Massive is of course the same team that brought us The Division franchise and this new game will be led by The Division 2 and The Crew director Julian Gerighty. It will be built using the same Snowdrop Engine that was used in The Division. Development is very early so don’t expect to be playing it anytime soon.
This news is significant because it means that the exclusive Star Wars games license that Electronic Arts has held for years is over. That doesn’t mean that EA won’t make Star Wars games anymore but rather Lucasfilm is just wanting to get more development teams involved moving forward. EA has already confirmed that more Star Wars titles are on the way from them. Lucasfilm also says that more Star Wars games will be announced in the coming year.
