Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that they are developing a next-generation virtual reality system for the PlayStation 5.
In a PlayStation Blog post, Sony Interactive Entertainment senior vice president of platform planning and management Hideaki Nishino said this: “Today, I’m pleased to share that our next-generation VR system will be coming to PlayStation 5, enabling the ultimate entertainment experience with more dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity. Players will feel an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds once they put on the new headset.”
Some of the new things players can expect include better resolution and field of view, better tracking and input, a single cord to simplify the ease of use, and a brand new controller that will incorporate some of the key features found in the DualSense.
Sony says that the headset won’t launch in 2021 but they are in the process of sending out development kits to their partners so that they can get started on making games.
