Why Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Needs To Be The Best In The Series

As a longtime fan of the Assassins Creed series, I am starting to have my doubts when it comes to the future of the series. With all the problems that surrounded Unity it left a bad taste in the mouth of many gamers. While giving out the season pass for free for those who bought it was a step in the right direction, it still wasn’t enough to get over the mess completely. While I thought it was a good idea for the series to take a break, it seems Ubisoft plans on pushing out the yearly releases no matter what the cost to the brand with Assassins Creed: Syndicate.

If Assassins Creed wants to win back the heart of its customers AC: Syndicate is going to have to be the best game of the series. This is a very tall order considering the series average score is in the mid 80’s with the highest being a 90 on metacritic with AC:2. This can be achieved with the backing that Ubisoft has because they own quite a few studios. Last year they muddled it up by shipping two games in the same year so there resources were spread thin for help which is why AC: Unity shipped with so many bugs.

From all that we have seen so far from AC: Syndicate I think the setting is what will really give it a shot to be the best in the series. As you know it is set in 1868 London during the Industrial Revolution, which I am very fascinated to see what they could do with this time period. Also new for the series is that you will play as two main characters Jacob and Evie Frye who are twin brothers. Assassin’s Creed has pretty much always had just the one main character you play as so I wonder what kind of things they could do story wise with having two main characters.

With every new iteration in the series there is always some form of an assassin brotherhood following that you have access to for help on different missions. It seems AC: Syndicate is taking that one step further by letting you create your own syndicate to take out the Templars. This could revolutionize what it means to have a following in the series because now every side mission and story mission you do affects your fellow gang. If done right this could really make for new innovating things for the series in terms of gameplay because all your actions will affect everything else in the game and how you grow your gang. On top of that each brother will have their own skill tree. So that you can develop two characters and give them more specific skills so you can switch in and out to whichever character has the better set of skills for that mission.

Gameplay wise it seems the AC series is throwing in a few new wrinkles to spice up the usual gameplay of the series. There will be stage coaches which can be hijacked grand theft auto style, environmental kills and a new rope launcher that acts just like Batman’s grappling hook. As a big Batman fan the “rope launcher” looks like it will be a lot of fun to use, though it seems it will cut into one of the best parts of the game which is climbing up buildings. Hopefully the rope launcher is implemented correctly to where it is not too easy to scale buildings and still warrants the use of your parkour climbing skills.

Ubisoft says that AC: Synidcate has been in development for three years now so I would assume this game should not be a bug filled mess like Unity. The game is also only being developed for the new generation consoles so there resources won’t be stretched as thin for this game hopefully leading to a better experience. The one thing Unity got right was how great they made the world look and I am looking forward to seeing how great of a world they can build with the amazing London setting they have chosen.

Ubisoft cannot afford to have any problems with this game or it will likely be a crushing blow that will lead to the series ending. I hope that day never comes because of how awesome the series has been over the years. What do you guys think of the new game and what are your opinions of the state of the Assassin’s Creed series right now. Let us know in the comments below.
