Borderlands has been officially confirmed to be backwards compatible for Xbox One, but there is some great news for preview members. You can start playing right now! The DLC for the original Borderlands game will also be backwards compatible starting from today for preview members.
If you are not a preview member then you will have to wait until November when it becomes public.
