Bethesda’s decision to have their very own presser for the first time surprised many fans at E3 2015 but even more surprising to gamers and critics alike was just how successful Bethesda’s E3 showing was. Gamers in general and especially fans of Bethesda games were pleased with showing of Doom gameplay, the reveal of Dishonored 2 and the real juggernaut of the show: Fallout 4.
Fast forward to February 1 2016 and Bethesda announced they’d be hosting a similar event at this year’s E3 and rampant speculation ensued as to what they’ll be showing at this year’s E3. Based on last year’s showings gamers can expect some of the obvious things such as a gameplay reveal of Dishonored 2. Dishonored 2 was announced at Bethesda E3 2015 showing with a brief cinematic clip of the games new female playable character Emily Kaldwin alongside returining protagonist Corvo Attano. Details released currently seem to indicate that you will be able to choose between the two and each will have varying powers and abilities for assassinations. Due to the hype surrounding this game we expect that Dishonored 2 will be the star of the show with perhaps gameplay from both protagonists sides.
Next, arguably one of the biggest games of, not only 2015, but this entire generation so far was Fallout 4. Just like Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas we fully expect that Bethesda will be showing off some dlc for Fallout 4. The game has been hugely successful in terms of sales and in the eyes of critics and gamers alike so it’s almost certain that Bethesda will want to capitalize on this success by giving details on dlc for Fallout 4. Another prediction but much more of a long shot is perhaps a tease or some form of announcement of an independent Fallout game developed by a separate team similar to Fallout: New Vegas but this is an unlikely bet but one can hope.
It’s also here that we hope that we will finally get Fallout 4 mods for the console versions of the game (if they don’t arrive before this year’s E3). Or at least we hope Bethesda will have all the information ironed out by then as many console gamers are eagerly awaiting the chance to try mods on the Xbox One and PS4.
While on the topic of dlc it’s also a fairly safe predicition that Bethesda will be showing off dlc for Elder Scrolls Online, their fairly popular elder scrolls online MMO. ESO has been treated well by Bethesda will fairly regular and fairly substantial dlc/updates so it’s all but certain that Bethesda will be showing off new stuff for the game which will be a nice treat for all those who enjoy Elder Scrolls Online.
Another popular franchise that we expect to make an appearance at Bethesda’s E3 showing is Wolfenstein. Wolfenstein: The New Order came out in 2014 followed by the smaller title Wolfenstein: The Old Blood in 2015 so we believe it’s a real possibility that MachineGames will have something ready to show off by this year’s E3 and this will have fans of the World War 2 focused game excited to see what’s in store for the franchise. On top of that, there were reports around September of last year where Alicja Bachleda-Curus, who plays Anya Oliwa in Wolfenstein: The New Order, seemingly announced she was working on a new one. She told a Polish TV station that “I’m working on a video game, first part of which I have already made” then also recalled how she was happy when she got to kill Hitler which all but confirms that a new Wolfenstein is being worked on and we believe E3 is the time for Bethesda to show us this new entry in the Wolfenstein series.
DOOM was recently announced to be releasing in May of this year so there’s doubts whether it’ll be shown at Bethesda’s conference but it’s still a possibility that some form of expansion or dlc might be revealed or detailed at the conference but we doubt DOOM will get that much time on stage at the conference.
Remasters and re-releases have been very prevalent this gen and fans of popular fantasy game Elder Scrolls: Skyrim might be treated to a remaster for current gen consoles. Skyrim is such a huge game with a loyal following and also sold very well so we believe it’s more than possible that Bethesda could reveal a remaster for Skyrim perhaps in 1080p/60fps or whatever else improvements they can make to bring it to Xbox One and PS4. While nothing confirmed, the fact that Bethesda haven’t released Skyrim for Xbox One backwards compatibility could be a hint towards a remaster coming but again this is just a hunch but one that makes sense for Bethesda to do.
Bethesda could really drop a bomb with Elder Scrolls VI which many gamers are reluctant to believe but just due to the fact that Bethesda are doing another dedicated event it would follow that they have a juggernaut to show off like they did with Fallout 4. While this spot can be filled by Dishonored 2, we feel that Dishonored 2 doesn’t have enough weight behind it to be the juggernaut worth hosting a dedicated event for so some sort of reveal or announcement for the next Elder Scrolls game will surely set the internet on fire and get the hype train rolling for that game.
However, another possibility is that Bethesda might have a new IP to show off which would be a very welcome surprise as we never really know what the next big game is going to be so taking risks with new IP’s is always appreciated as they offer something new and we feel that could really steal the show for Bethesda.
