Far Harbor, DLC 3 of the hit game Fallout 4, is set to release on May 19 and from what we’ve heard, it’s going to be a huge expansion for the already content filled game. Bethesda has made it clear that it is the biggest piece of DLC they’ve ever released. This even includes the huge Shivering Isles DLC for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. As you can see, the map of Shivering Isles was huge! Shivering Isles held the previous record as the biggest Bethesda DLC/Expansion. However, Far Harbor is set to change that.
Far Harbor revolves around a quest line involving a woman who is searching for her lost daughter, so the player and Nick Valentine are sent to find her. This is very similar to the plot of Fallout 3’s Point Lookout DLC, as it also had you find a woman’s lost daughter. The expansion takes place in a place known as Far Harbor, Maine and a trailer was released by Bethesda showing off some of the new enemies, characters, and new landscape that players will be exploring. This time around, story seems to be the main focus, as the other DLCs focused mainly on the new settlement system.
The previous two DLCs for Fallout 4 were Automatron & Wasteland Workshop. Automatron added the ability to build custom robots and added a couple of new quests, but nothing that impressive. Wasteland Workshop was even smaller than Automatron adding onlya few new settlement items. However Automatron only costs $10 and Wasteland Workshop only costs $5, and that’s pretty good considering what you get in an already much praised game. As we can see in the Achievement list for Fallout 4, the Far Harbor ones have already been added, and there’s quite a bit of them. Far Harbor adds a total of 10 new achievements for the players to get and 20 Locations have already been confirmed, as that is one of the achievements listed. Also 5 of the 10 achievements are quest completion quests. We can also see that there is a new magazine for players to collect which is a neat bonus to the DLC.
With a new location in a Bethesda game of course means more modding opportunity. Modders will definitely use Far Harbor to their advantage to create many mods that players will enjoy. Also Bethesda just released the Creation Kit for PC and have added new mod sharing system on Bethesda.net. Mods have even been confirmed to be coming to both Xbox One and PS4. Xbox One will receive the ability to download mods this month and PS4 will get the option in June. Modding will also add more content to what Bethesda already given us and that is just amazing.
Why do I believe that Far Harbor will be bigger than any other DLC this year? I believe this for several reasons, for one Bethesda has a good history with big DLC this isn’t a mere map pack like in games such as Call of Duty, Bethesda adds new quests and areas to most of their DLCs which gives the player more to do, also out of all of the games releasing in 2016, few of them are RPGs that get Bethesda style expansion packs. Usually we get treated to a small DLC that adds little to nothing. The funny thing is that Far Harbor isn’t even the last piece of Fallout 4 DLC, as Bethesda says they plan on several more after the third. I believe that Far Harbor will add at least 2 hours of new content for players and that’s amazing for a DLC.
Far Harbor will release May 19th for PC, Xbox One, and PS4; will cost $24.99 and be free to all Season Pass holders. The DLC is currently in Closed Beta. Let us know down below why you are excited for Far Harbor!
