Microsoft massively stunned the gaming world last year with the huge announcement that the Xbox One would offer backwards compatibility for its predecessor’s titles of the Xbox 360. It’s a huge, technological step forward for Microsoft considering both consoles have very different architectures, but the feature has been rolled out with high praise.
Back in E3, 2015, Microsoft ever so slightly teased at backward compatibility in the form of Xbox 360 emulation before finally announcing what we’d all been waiting for, complete backwards compatibility for Xbox One. With an ever growing list of compatible games, Microsoft made it possible to simply insert an Xbox 360 disc into your Xbox One to play it. As well as this, any game you previously bought digitally (on the Xbox marketplace) is also available to download and play on the basis that it is compatible. Doesn’t this sound incredible? Well, not only can you do all of that, but you can also keep all of your Xbox 360 saves, add-ons, achievements, Gamerscore and to top it all off you can play with your friends online regardless of which console they’re using.
The huge conglomerate Microsoft has, today, released another 4 Xbox 360 games to their backwards compatibility catalogue for Xbox One players. As announced on the social media platform Twitter, Microsoft’s very own Major Nelson revealed the four new games, which are:
- Final Fight: Double Impact
- Faery: Legends of Avalon
- Frogger 2
If you had previously owned these games digitally, they should already show on your ‘Ready to Download’ area of ‘My Games and Apps’ of your Xbox One. You can, as any other game, download and play them as much as you’d like.
With these new games, the list continues to grow with more than 170 games in the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility library. You can view the list of Xbox 360 games that are currently playable on the Xbox One here.
New games will be added to the ever growing list whenever they are ready, and there is no set schedule of when they’ll be added. There are 5 more popular games on their way and have been confirmed to the program, which are:
- Call of Duty: Black Ops
- BioShock 2
- BioShock Infinite
- Skate 3
These games are definitely ones to look forward to as they are undoubtedly more popular than a lot on the list. People have made it very clear that they want to see even more popular games being added such as Bethesda’s beloved The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Rockstar’s smash hit Red Dead Redemption being added to the program. Each of the desired have 150,000 and 140,000 votes, respectively on the Xbox Feedback site.
What games would you like to see being featured in the next release? Perhaps you want some older games being added? Have you voted for either of the games mentioned before or have you even voted for a different one? Let us know down below in the comments, we’d love to hear from you!
