On Wednesday at 11AM Pacific Daylight Time, Microsoft will re-release around 1 million gamertags to their Xbox Live Gold members. These gamertags are the one that didn’t move over to the Xbox 360 and have been dormant for years, stopping newer or existing users of the platform from using them.
However, some details are to be noted. You will need to be a member of Xbox Gold Live with a subscription of at least a year. The gamertags will be re-released in 24 hour periods so that all gamers have an equal chance to get their desired gamertag.
According to Major Nelson, the tags becoming available will be falling into some more popular categories such as:
- Proper Names
- Pop culture references
- Types of Food
- Geography and Travel
- Science and Technology
- Math and Numbers
- Great inventions from the past
Major Nelson also posted on his website that the easiest way of obtaining one of these gamertags is through the official Xbox website:
Access to these newly-released Gamertags will be available on Xbox.com, which is the most convenient way to make a Gamertag change. Xbox Live Gold members can also access these Gamertags within the Xbox App on Windows 10 and on the Xbox One console. Xbox 360 owners will need to use , the Xbox App on Windows 10, or an Xbox One console to participate given that access to these newly-released Gamertags is not available from an Xbox 360 console.
