Just now at E3 we saw the very first in-depth look at gameplay from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. So much has changed in this game that truly does, as Aonuma once said, “break the conventions of the Zelda franchise.” Upon first looking at this game, it’s clear that Breath of the Wind has a lot of potential to becoming one of the greatest Nintendo games of all time.
Immediately, you are dropped into this world and you have no idea how you got here, where you came from, or what your backstory is at all. The gameplay footage started at the very beginning of the game, where you wake up as Link in a dark room just barely lit by small blue lighting, which we’ve seen before in previous trailers. Upon waking up, you hear an unknown voice giving you commands such as “wake up” and “take this” etc. The first item you are given in the game is the Sheikah Slate, which is officially not a book as many were speculating. It is currently unknown the origin of the slate or the potential of its power, but we have seen that it can open doors and guides Link to where he needs to go as it immediately marks a point on the map for link to go to.
As you can see, Link starts off right where he did in the Game Awards footage last year, and Hyrule (confirmed) is absolutely beautiful. The landscape is breath-taking and there’s plenty to do in this vast world. In this game you now cook and eat to heal yourself, you can take other enemies’ weapons, you have a stamina bar, a sprint and a jump button, a wide variety of weapons and a wide variety of clothes for you to wear. This could mean that we just might see the green tunic make a return at some point. In addition, the Master Sword is clearly back, and Aonuma has confirmed for us that time-travel will take place in this game. Also, the eerie robots that attacked Link in the very first trailer we got back in 2014 are known as guardians, and they are inactive in their current state where Link starts off. Stay tuned for more news on this amazing upcoming game!
