With the immense popularity of Pokemon GO, it was no surprise that people started asking to see other fan-favourite franchises turned into a “Go” game. One of the most popular requests was for a Harry Potter GO game, as evidenced by this petition. As of the time of writing this article, the petition has gained over 38,000 signatures and is hugely popular.
According to the website JTXH News (and a few other sources), a senior developer at Niantic (the developers of Pokemon Go), Marcus Figueroa had some pretty promising comments on the possibility of Harry Potter GO with the most notable statement being that they had acquired the rights to the franchise.
We have acquired the rights for the app. The demand for this title was absolutely insane, so we figured we’d give it a shot. If we’re lucky we might see a launch by early 2017, but it’s hard to tell this early in the project.
We want to do something with schools of witchcraft and wizardry, similar to pokestops in Pokemon GO. As wells a quest system, and possibly large-scale completely interactive events, but no promises. That’s all I can say.
There’s no saying whether this is true or not at this point but it certainly is excting that there might be a Pokemon Go-like game for the boy wizard!
