Gears Of War 4 Fails To Meet Sales Expectations

This morning the UK sales charts for last week got released and with them brought some bad news for Gears of War 4. In the sales chart Gears of War 4 was second behind FIFA 17 which isn’t good news. Sure FIFA is huge in Europe but this is Gears of War we are talking about and the fact that it couldn’t beat a game that had already been on the market is not good news. Further it seems like Gears of War 4 had a smaller opening then even No Man’s Sky did. It was also the worst opening for a mainline Gears of War game yet.

While we don’t know what the digital sales look like most games do still sell more at retail for several reasons. I think it’s safe to say that Gears of War 4 is probably not meeting expectations right now. According to some other data we know that Gears of War 4 sold between 55K to 100K as FIFA 17 sold 105K last week while Mafia 3 sold 55K. For comparison here is how the other mainline Gears of War games sold in their opening week in the UK

Gears of War 1: 100,000

Gears of War 2: 220,000

Gears of War 3: 323,000

Gears of War 4: >105,000

Again digital sales are bigger now than they were back then but I don’t think there are anywhere near double or even triple the retail sales. Let us know in the comments what you think of the lackluster sales of Gears of War 4 in the UK.

  1. Well, Gears, Titanfall 2 and BF1 all came out within a tight time frame. I think Gears of War 4’s real sales numbers will really shine during black friday and Xmas sales. These titles are expensive now and many kids simply can’t afford to dish out so much cash for so many cool titles. I currently have Gears 4 and Titanfall 2 and BF will be the last one I purchase, but this was simply my choice. I rather play Horde with buddies, then run around with 63 others in BF.

    • Xmas? Gtfo of here with that stupid crap.

  2. I think the game wasn’t dark enough. When you sit there and think, was the game dark enough, anyone who’s played 5 seconds of it knows the answer is no. It’s nowhere near as dark as Gears 1 or 2. I think 3 was so successful because of the hype and success of Gears 2. That’s it. As soon as gears 2 ended, the rainbows and sunshine crap began in Gears 3. Why? Because many countries banned the game for the trademark intense gore, so they dumbed down the gore. That’s why it got MORE cartoonish and that’s why it wasn’t as great. They robbed it of it’s maturity and realism I guess you could say.

I’ve seen this a million times, these stupid asz companies forsake what made a game popular and great for “sales”. Sure, it works a little bit, but eventually you stop building a base and you lose your loyal base and you end up with the massive drop off in sales like with judgement, for example.

STOP with the kiddy crap gore and not so dark environment. The gore in Gears 2 was the best most gritty there was. You people need to learn from the 2nd Gears and take a damn hint or this franchise won’t be going ANYWHERE because you won’t be winning back your base and you won’t be building a new one like with what Gears 1 and 2 did. ADULT content, not butterflies and hipsters and schit like you did in the first mission of the campaign in Gears 4. SMH.
