The producer of Gran Turismo Sport, Kazunori Yamauchi was interviewed during PSX’s day two live stream to talk about the upcoming game. He first talked about HDR and how the development and looking into using HDR in the game started around 3 years ago.
He talked about how old TV’s wasn’t able to allow the dynamic lighting that a real world race would have, and how with the present day TV’s HDR it’s allowing the developers to create the most real to life looking racing game possible. HDR means a lot to Yamauchi, because he feels that the environment and lighting means just as much as the cars do in the game.
Yamauchi had four main targets for GT Sport which were, 4K, 60FPS, HDR, and wide color. He went on to praise the PS4 architecture, and explained how a 2K, 60FPS, HDR, wide color PS4 version was made first. Yamauchi said that scaling up to 4K with PS4 Pro surprised him because it wasn’t as hard as he first thought it would be.
