I’ve always been a big fan of the horror genre. There’s something deeply disturbing about that – I recognize, but I am drawn to the nail-biting suspense, and the sheer dread that horror films conjure up. As a youngster, I was terrified of Freddy Krueger. The first time I saw A Nightmare on Elm Street, I was barely 10 years old and it scared the living daylights out of me. Many nightmares later, I began to appreciate the series, and the wild imagination of Wes Craven and his star, Robert B. Englund.
And then suddenly, A Nightmare on Elm Street went cold.
The series was effectively dead and buried after Robert Englund took a leave of absence and some lame attempts at sequels flopped at the box office. The pick of the litter was the 1984 R-rated flick, the original directed by Wes Craven. A few others followed, including A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge in 1985, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, and Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare in 1991 directed by Rachel Talalay. Freddy versus Jason in 2003 starred Robert Englund, but by then the series had become comical and much of the horror had dissipated. I had all but given up on the demonic entity until 2010 when a new version of A Nightmare on Elm Street was released. The film was hardly as scary as the original, but it conjured up many terrifying images in my mind, and Freddy was back!
This Is Where Things Get Really Interesting…
I’m a big fan of online slots games. Most of the time I’m just horsing around in a free-play mode at the casino. Then, out of nowhere it hits me… A Nightmare on Elm Street Slots. Imagine my surprise when I discovered the devilish Freddy Krueger on my screen. This slots game features 5 spinning reels and 30 paylines. It is rich with Wild symbols, Scatter symbols, Free Spins, and actual movie footage from the latest Hollywood blockbuster. The clarity of the game is worth mentioning. Whether you’re playing on iOS, Android or your PC, this game lights up in spectacular fashion.
It is ominous from the get-go. Several of the in-game features will have you clawing your nails deeper into your seat. These include the Never Sleep Again Bonus Game. Since there are 5 spinning reels, you need to watch out for the bonus symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4. You will be required to pick items on screen to keep you awake. If you don’t stay awake, you’re in trouble – serious trouble.
I’ve yet to find a horror slots game that compares to A Nightmare on Elm Street Slots. This game electrifies your screen with startling realism and palpable tension. If the visuals don’t grab you, the chilling music will. The musical score in this game is as eerie as it gets. I found myself having to push the mute button to keep from getting goosebumps while I was playing the game. There are bloodcurdling screams and rising tension evident in the musical score.
If you’re a little squeamish about blood and guts, I highly recommend going elsewhere. This online slots game delivers gut-wrenching action, and your adrenaline will be coursing through your veins like never before. What makes this so exciting is that you get to interact with the eponymous Freddy Krueger on your reels. He’s not your friend in this game, and you don’t control him – he does what he wants.
I Challenge You to Play A Nightmare on Elm Street Slot
But if you play your cards right, you may just walk away with a fistful of dollars in the process. Some of the other symbols you will find in this slots game include 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace symbols. Of course, Freddy’s not clowning around in this adventure. He may have been hibernating for a few years, but he’s back and he’s on your screen. Remember, Freddy Krueger never dies – he simply lies in wait until the next nightmare. This online slots game will keep the legend of Freddy Krueger alive because players are enticed with the possibility of massive jackpots. The legacy of Wes Craven remains with this frightening slots game. The dream slayer demon attacks us at our most vulnerable, and this slots game encapsulates the essence of the Craven concept.
It will be hard to keep players away from this game, what with its chilling ambience, and the lure of winning a progressive jackpot. Those razor-sharp blades on Freddy’s right hand are the stuff of legend. That screeching sound when he scrapes those claws against metal pipes in the basement has forever been burned into my consciousness.
Perhaps I’m a lost cause; I scoured cyberspace for similar horror-themed slots games, but I came up empty-handed. None of them compares to the sheer dread and terror of A Nightmare on Elm Street. I challenge you to play this game and post your feedback right here at Destructoid. If you don’t have the guts to play for real money, try in a play-for-fun mode and see if you make it through a couple of sessions without muting the sound and turning all the lights on. Either way, enjoy Krueger…he’s back…
