During Take-Two’s quarterly conference call, the CEO of Take-Two Strauss Zelnick answered questions about upcoming games. When asked about how Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA Online will co-exist he said their was no competition between the games, which we covered here.
He went on to say that he thinks that the success of Red Dead Redemption 2 which he called “highly anticipated” will be “driven by its quality.” He stated that’s why he thinks GTA Online is doing so well three years later, because it was “driven by its extraordinary quality.”
It’s good to hear that Take-Two/Rockstar are going for quality rather than spending millions of dollars on an advertising campaign to build hype and anticipation. Take-Two and Rockstar are doing what every publisher/developer should be doing, and selling the game through its quality. There’s no doubt that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be of high quality, and as Take-Two said, will be a success also.
Do you feel more publishers and developers should follow what Take-Two said, and sell their games through the quality of the game rather than generating forced hype through advertising? Let us know in the comments section below.
