So it is already February and it looks like we should be excited for the free games we will receive in the following months. Normally, the games with gold service gives us fairly poor games. However, this looks like we could be in for some exciting months ahead of us, including February. If you missed the announcement of the games we will be receiving, on Xbox One we will get Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (which will be available from 1st February to 28th February) and Project Cars (which will be available from 16th February to 15th March).
On the Xbox 360 we will receive Monkey Island 2: Special Edition (which will be available from 1st February to 15th February) and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (which will be available from 16th February to 28th February). The main thing which we can’t forget is that Monkey Island 2: Special Edition and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will both be available to play on the Xbox one via the backwards compatibility program. This makes February one of the best months for games with gold because it is one of the only months in which we have received a AAA Xbox One title for free. Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a game which is part of Xbox’s ID program.
It was released on the Xbox One on September 9th 2015 worldwide, and later for PlayStation. Project Cars is a racing simulation game which was developed by Slightly Mad Studios and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment (who publish games such as Naruto, Tekken and Dragon Ball). It was released in May 2015 on the Xbox One and other platforms such as PlayStation 4. Money Island 2: Special Edition is an adventure game which was developed and published by LucasArts. However , the “Special Edition” is a re-imagined version of the classic game LeChuck’s Revenge which was published in 1991.
The “Special Edition” was released on the Xbox 360 on July 7th 2010, 19 years after the classic game was released. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is an action adventure game. It was released in North America on September 16th, 2008, in Australia and South East Asia on September 17th 2008, and then finally in Europe on September 19th 2008.
And now the important question, why is this month so good for Games With Gold? Well the service has had many bad months over the last 12 months, with some very low scoring and unpopular games being offered. However with this months offerings, it’s actually one of the best for average review scores which can be found below.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime – 82/100
Project Cars – 81/100
Monkey Island 2: Special Edition – 85/100
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed – 73/100
This makes the average of the four games just over 80/100 which is very impressive for a Games With Gold month, but it’s not always about what critics think, it’s about what the gamer thinks too and I have played all of these games at least once and enjoyed them. What’s great too is that the games are so varied which means there’s a strong chance you’ve never owned at least two of the games in the list. For many it could be three or even four of the games because of how varied they are.
I have to say that February 2017 could be one of the best months for games with gold because it is the first month in a long time in which we have received 2 AAA titles at once. It has been a long time since we saw a games with gold lineup which consisted of 2 AAA titles within a month. Games with gold had been missing a lineup with more than 1 AAA title for quite some time, and we might be waiting quite some time for a lineup like this months.
Let us know down in the comments what you think about this months’ lineup and when you think we will next see a games with gold lineup like this.

We got 2 in December with Burnout and Sleeping Dogs and that was only 2 months ago.
