2017 has been a great year for PlayStation. Not only have they hit 70 million PS4’s sold but they have provided some great exclusives. With Sony serving up titles like Gravity Rush 2, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice for starters, they went onto the main course of Crash Bandicoot Trilogy, Gran Turismo Sport and the huge Horizon Zero Dawn. With some of the best games releasing this year, what will become of 2018 and what are we expecting? Here are my top 5 PlayStation 4 games of 2018.
Detroit: Become Human
With a portfolio of Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls, Quantic Dream return with their new neo-noir title, Detroit: Become Human. You are in control of three androids who all share different scenarios. With your choices, you make the world around the androids change. One wrong decision can affect you later down the line. This could be killing a civilian or killing off a main character. With no actual ‘Game Over’ when a main character dies, you continue with the mistake you have made, which makes this game highly repayable and also interesting, and depending what type of mood you are in on the day, this could go anywhere. It’s not always wrong to play the bad guy, is it?
Days Gone
Bend Studio, famous for the series Syphon Filter, are releasing their first console game in 14 years. After working on many other projects for sister studios of Sony, they have put time and dedication into a game that went full production as 2015. This game being Days Gone. Days gone is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where you play the protagonist, Deacon. As an ex-bounty hunter, he is used to running down runaway’s, perhaps this time he’s the one being chased. ‘Freakers’ are on the loose and they aren’t friendly. This zombie like horde are very sensitive to being disturbed and will chase anything down with a pulse. Very much like The Last of Us, except, open world and a different back story. Who knows, maybe they’re linked? Maybe they call zombies different things as they’re from different parts of the US. . . I’m just thinking out loud here.
God of War
REBOOT! God of War returns! This time in the world of Norse Mythology. After Kratos eliminated the gods of Olympus, he decided to retire to the woods of Scandinavia. But, the Norse gods have caught wind of what Kratos was up to in Greece and are now taking precautions of keeping him far, far away from them. Kratos is not alone however. He has his young son, Atreus, to teach, mentor and develop. This game shows all the signs of a beautiful open world action adventure game. With a new 3rd person look on things, we get to see pretty much what Kratos sees on face value. This will be good, gory and glorious!
Spider Man
Spidey is back on the consoles. This time, an exclusive to the PlayStation 4. You play as Peter Parker. . . obviously. But in this game, you go through both motions of him behind the mask and then him in tight leggings. Made by Insomniac Games, the creators of Ratchet and Clank and Resistance, they are at the helm of creating New York City on a bad day. Early showings of Spider Man at E3 blew spectators away and the mechanics looks brilliant. So if saving Mary-Jane is your thing or swinging from building to building, don’t worry this absolute stunner has you covered.
The Last of Us: Part II
Now hold on folks. No release date on this yet. However, the game has been in development since 2014 and motion capture was completed this year. So hopefully. . . . . Hopefully this can be ready for Q4 of 2018. Could you imagine? The Most Wanted and Anticipated Game of the Year gets released next year?! Anyway, A direct sequel from the first one. It’s hard to determine who you are playing yet, as both trailers are not giving any gameplay away. However, we know Ellie and Joel are there (some fan theories state otherwise *cough* Joel’s dead) and all we got from the second trailer was torture, suspense and heart palpitations. Regardless, this game is going to be amazing. Anything Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann touches turns to gold, so let’s cross our finger & toes and hope we get a 2018 release date (probably 2019 *sad face*).
These are my Top 5 PlayStation 4 games of 2018. With so many coming out, it’s hard to pick a top 5. Do you like my 5 or do you have 5 different ones? Let me know in the comments below or let me know on Twitter. Have a fantastic new year gamers!!
