Why God Of War (2018) Deserves Your Attention Even If It’s Going To Be Your First

If you are like me and have never played a God of War game before but have heard it mentioned before, you might be wondering what exactly is this God of War series or games that I keep on hearing about?

Well, let’s first start off with the beginning. There are two different eras of the God of War series, the Greek mythology and the Norse mythology. The early God of War games were based on the Greek mythology while the later games have the Norse mythology. The series has been a flagship name for PlayStation since it’s release on the PlayStation 2.

The God of War series follows Kratos, who is a Spartan warrior and was tricked into killing his wife and daughter by his former master, the Greek god of war, Ares. Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, had requested Kratos into killing Ares and by doing so, he became the new God of War. Zeus, the king of the Greek gods, had betrayed Kratos and much of the earlier games was Kratos fighting the Gods of Olympus.

The God of War (2018) game will be the first one in the second era or the Norse mythology era. It was announced at 2016’s E3 conference and it had shown Kratos has a son now and teaching the boy how to hunt. Of course, this game is set many years after the events of the God of War III game and is set in a world of Norse mythology after Kratos had eliminated the Greek gods.

Now, why is this God of War game be worth the time for us first timers to the series? I think that with the game having a new background or setting would give us a chance to jump into the series without feeling that we are lost. I mean with the Norse mythology and the fact this would be the first game that would have that element whereas the early games had the Greek gods element. It’s almost like this God of War is like a new game in a sense with Kratos off in another land with his young son. Also, it would be good for those of us who are interested in Norse mythology or mythology in general. The gameplay shown for the game had shown RPG elements and RPG fans might be interested in checking out this game.

This is also the first main game in the series since God of War III was released in 2010 on PS3. So this would be another good reason to get into this new God of War game since it would be the first one on the PS4.

I do have to admit though the trailers for the game does look pretty amazing it does seem like it would be an interesting game to play especially if it has the RPG elements in it. I never really heard of the Norse mythology so this would be a very good game to get more experience into the mythology and it reminds me much of the Assassin’s Creed in the sense that it uses history in its games and that makes those games interesting so I would assume that this would also be true for the God of War games when it comes to the mythology aspects that it incorporates.

God of War appears to be a promising game of 2018 especially with it being the first main game in 8 years or so and with it being the first one on the PlayStation 4. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was in the running for this year’s Game of the Year category. I think fans of the series can’t wait for this game to come out and it will probably bring in the newer generation or wave of fans to the series. I would probably see God of Wars being like Final Fantasy 15 in the sense that it brought in so many newer players to the series, like me, and that it is still going strong after being out for over a year.

It will be interesting to see what God of War has in store with it’s newest release coming out April 20th!

Have your say!
