Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Review (2018)

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire mainly focuses on Role-playing (RPG) genre and supports Single-player mode, developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Versus Evil. It is the marvelous sequel to Pillars of Eternity, released in 2015 for Microsoft Windows, Mac, and Linux OS, as well as PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.


The plot follows the protagonist, who is a “watcher” and has the ability to look into the soul of other people and read their brains, as well as discovers their past lives. The lord of light and rebirth by the name Eothas who was believed dead finds under the stronghold of the protagonist known as Caed Nua. As the story advances, the lord of light destroys the stronghold and leaves the protagonist near death. He traverses to Deadfire Archipelago to pursue the lord of light and rebirth and find the answers. The actions and decisions of the player shape the storyline and the gameplay of Deadfire.


The game is played from an isometric viewpoint and the player can take on the role of the protagonist, a Watcher who is capable of reading memories and looking into the people’s souls. The environment of the game takes place in the fantastic world of Eora. The title comes with new companions, who plays the major role in-game. There are four sidekicks available that can traverse with the player. Unlike the previous entry, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire introduces the customization boat stronghold that serves as the scripted ship to ship encounters and the mobile base for navigating uncharted islands.

During the gameplay, the player can purchase or steal new ships from enemies and can hire crews to look over the ship. It represents the class-based gameplay and each class has three sub-classes with unique abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. In the game, the player must captain his ship on the dangerous voyage around the huge unexplored region. The player has to bend the world to his will, as he navigates the depths of infinite possibilities, including freedom of exploration, detailed character customization, meaningful choices and more.
The player can engage himself in the depth of Single-player Role-playing game experience, enriched with features and cutting-edge technology. It offers the classic D&D gameplay with enhanced visuals, deeper mechanics and the entirely new hand-crafted adventure where the player’s choices matter. Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire focuses on those players, who love playing RPG and fishing games


Find out new regions full of exotic islands and archipelago regions, where the player discovers new places encountering their inhabitants and completing a variety of quests at every port.

Customization feature lets the player select his/her character and change the appearance using several combinations.

Build the Party: there are seven companions each with unique skills and abilities available to join the player on his epic quest.

Captain the Ship: the player explores the environment to battle against enemies, commanding his party members, and completing the quests to earn points, which he can be used to purchase upgrades for his ship and crew.
