E3 2018 is over and it was another great show overall. If you missed any of the news last week these recap posts are here to catch you up on all the biggest announcements from this year’s show.
Microsoft had maybe their best E3 ever this year with a jam packed show that featured 50 games. Microsoft gave us first looks at a lot of third party games but also a few surprise exclusive announcements including one announcement in particular that will shape their future. Check out everything they showed below.
Halo: Infinite
Microsoft started the show by revealing a brand new Halo game called Halo: Infinite. While we don’t know much from the trailer it is being built on a new engine called the Slipspace engine and the game seems to have that classic Halo vibe to it last seen in Halo 3. We don’t know when the game will be arriving or if it will even be an Xbox One game but more news will come in the future.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps:
We then moved on to Ori and the Will of the Wisps that was announced at E3 2017. The game is just as beautiful as ever and will run at 4K and feature HDR when it launches sometime in 2019.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice:
Next up we saw what the title From Software teased at The Game Awards last year was. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a new action-adventure game from the studio except this time they are working with Activision on the project. While the game won’t feature a lot of the things people liked about the Souls series it still looks awesome. Look for this game on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019.
Fallout 76:
Todd Howard then came up on stage to give us a new trailer for Fallout 76. The game will be 4x bigger than Fallout 4 and will launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 14. Those on Xbox One will get access to the Beta before anyone else.
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit:
We then got a look at a new title from DONTNOD called The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. The game is set in the Life is Strange universe and is a prequel of sorts to Life is Strange 2. The game will carry some choices over to the full Life is Strange 2 game. It will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on June 26 for free so there is no reason for you not to try it.
Crackdown 3:
We then got a new trailer for Crackdown 3 with a lot of talking from Terry Crews as he blew up tons of stuff. The game was recently delayed again and will now launch on Xbox One and Windows 10 on February 22, 2019.

NieR: Automata:
We then got the announcement that NieR: Automata is headed to the Xbox One on June 26. The game will be released digitally only for $49.99 and is called NieR: Automata Become As Gods Edition. If you missed this game on PS4 and PC last year pick it up.
Metro Exodus:
4A Games then showed off a new gameplay trailer for Metro Exodus. The game still looks fantastic and is set to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on February 22, 2019.
Kingdom Hearts 3:
We then got a look at the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts 3. This would actually end up being the first of three different trailers for the game that would be shown at E3 2018. This one gave us a look at the Frozen world in the game.
Sea of Thieves: Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shore:
Xbox and Rare then showed off some future content for Sea of Thieves. The Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shore updates are being worked on and will be released later this year.
Battlefield V:
We then got a look at a single player mission from Battlefield V. It wasn’t very long but it looks good. The game launches October 19.
Forza Horizon 4:
It wouldn’t be a year without a Forza title and Playground Games is answering the call with Forza Horizon 4 this year. The game will launch on October 2 this year and brings the open world racer to Britain. The game introduces different weather seasons that will change every week and will offer a 60 FPS mode on the Xbox One X. Take a look at the gorgeous trailer below.

New First Party Studios:
While this wasn’t a new game announcement it will lead to those in the future. Microsoft made one of the biggest announcements ever by announced that they are opening and/or acquiring five new studios to add to their first party studios. The Initiative is the first which is a brand new studio being opened in Santa Monica. They also bought Undead Labs, the maker of State of Decay, and Playground Games, the makers of Forza Horizon. In addition for Forza Horizon, Playground Games are working on a brand new open world game rumored to be a new Fable game. Ninja Theory has also been picked up which you might know them from games like Hellblade and Enslaved. Lastly Compulsion Games has joined and you might know them from their upcoming game We Happy Few.
Microsoft has been in dire need of more exclusives and these five new studios will help them fix that problem. I look forward to what they all are working on.
We Happy Few:
Speaking of Compulsion Games, we got a brand new Story trailer for We Happy Few. The game is going to launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on August 10.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds:
We then got a new trailer for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds that showed off a new mode called “War” that will launch on Xbox One this Winter.

Bandai Namco then revealed that Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition is coming out on Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch this Winter. The game was originally released on the Xbox 360 but this new version has content that was never available outside of Japan before.
The Division 2:
Ubisoft then gave us our first look at gameplay from The Division 2. The game is set in Washington D.C. and looks great. Complaints players had with the shooting and cover mechanics have also been looked at and seem much better. The Division 2 will launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on March 15, 2019.
Fast Start and Xbox Game Pass Updates:
We then heard about a new feature that will roll out soon called Fast Start. Fast Start is a new technology that allows games to be loaded and be played much faster. We also got some updates on Xbox Game Pass. To start titles like Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Ashen, Warhammer: Vermentide 2, Afterparty, and Phoenix Point will all launch on Game Pass later this year. In addition, Fallout 4, The Division, and The Elder Scrolls: Online have been added to Game Pass now. Of course all future first party Xbox games will launch on Game Pass such as Forza Horizon 4, Crackdown 3, and Gears 5.
ID@Xbox:
We then got a new sizzle reel trailer for a whole bunch of indie games that are headed to Xbox One in the future. Games like Below, Outer Wilds, Sable, Planet Alpha and more.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider:
Square Enix then gave us our first look at gameplay from Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The game looks a little rough but we’re still in for another adventure with Lara Croft. The game is set to launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on September 14.
Session:
This next announcement got a lot of people excited that we were finally getting a Skate 4 but it turned out to be something different. Session is a new skateboarding game from crea-ture Studios and is headed to the Xbox One in 2019.
Black Desert Online:
Another title we saw at E3 2017 was Black Desert Online and we got a brand new trailer for it at this year’s show. If you like MMORPG’s then you might want to check this one out later this year.
Devil May Cry 5:
One of the biggest surprises of the show was the reveal of Devil May Cry 5 from Capcom. The game is set to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in Spring 2019 and is a sequel to Devil May Cry 4 that released 10 years ago. Nero returns as a playable character but will only be one of three that also includes fan favorite Dante and another unannounced character. I can’t wait for this one.
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course:
If you were one of the millions who loved Cuphead last year then get ready as new content is headed to the game. Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course is a new DLC pack featuring new levels, enemies, weapons, and a new playable character called Ms. Chalice. The new content will launch in 2019.
Tunic:
Tunic is an adorable new indie game that plays a lot like a classic Legend of Zelda game. It features a cute Fox character and has some really pretty graphics. Look for it on Xbox first sometime in the future.
Jump Force:
Bandai Namco returned once again to premier another brand new game called Jump Force. This new fighting game brings together various anime characters including those from One Piece, Naruto, Dragon Ball, and Death Note. The game will launch on Xbox One and PS4 in 2019.
Dying Light 2:
Techland is back with Dying Light 2, a sequel to their hit open world zombie game released several years back. This new game is set in the “Modern Dark Ages” and your choices will affect things in the game.
Battletoads:
That’s right everyone Battletoads is coming back exclusively on Xbox One sometime in 2019. We got a new teaser trailer for the game at the show and while it didn’t show us gameplay we do know it will be a 2.5D new entry in the franchise and will have 3 player couch co-op. Stay tuned for more news on this one.
Just Cause 4:
While it leaked before the show, Square Enix announced Just Cause 4 at the Xbox Event and gave us our first look at gameplay from this new entry. You won’t have to wait long to play it as it will launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on December 4.
Gears 5, Gears Tactics, and Gears Pop!:
That’s right we got three different Gears of War titles announced this year. Gears Pop! is a new mobile game for Android and iOS that will launch in 2019 and will give players a new way to play the Gears franchise. Gears Tactics is a PC only game that takes the franchise and turns it into a strategy game. Gears 5 is the lone console entry and features Kait from Gears of War 4 as the new playable character. The game will launch in 2019 and it seems like the world will be a little bit more open to explore this time around.
Cyberpunk 2077:
Finally to close the show we finally got a look at CD Projekt RED’s next game Cyberpunk 2077. While we didn’t get to see gameplay those at the show apparently did behind closed doors and everyone is talking about it. The game will be a FPS with heavy RPG elements and a huge and very detailed open world to explore. We can’t wait to see more from this.
That was it from Xbox at E3 2018 but let us know what you liked most about the show in the comments below.
