Top Sci-Fi Video Games to Play in 2019

2019 has already shaped up to be a stellar year for sci-fi geeks of all stripes. Critically-acclaimed video games releases such as Anthem and Metro Exodus have provided those of us with a penchant for scientific dystopias with hundreds of hours of riveting gameplay. Fortunately, there is still plenty to look forward to in the year ahead, so read on to find out the biggest sci-fi game releases coming your way soon.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood

The gory alternative reality game series Wolfenstein got its series reboot a few years back and was met with critical acclaim. Hot on the heels of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus comes a brand new release scheduled for some time later this year, which promises more of the high-octane, Nazi-killing action we’ve come to love. Youngblood is set in an alternate reality version of Paris in the 1980s, wherein the Nazis never left and it’s up to two young American women to free the city from killer robots and genetically-modified super soldiers.

Terminator VR

Okay, we’ll admit right now that this one is little more than rumours circulating the gamerverse, but the possibility of a new Terminator game hitting out screens this year looks promising. VR gaming developers Skydance recently bought the licensing rights, shortly after it was announced that a new Terminator movie will be released in the autumn, leading to a frenzy of speculation.

We don’t know when to expect a game, but in the meantime, there are options to keep Arnie fans content. One such game is the Terminator: Genisys slot game, one of the online slots from Betfair that has been a big hit since its release last year. Play as a Terminator and try to track down Sarah Connor in this 5-reel slot, all the while chasing real money cash prizes.

Rage 2

Part Mad Max, part Fallout 3, the original Rage game blew us all away with just how wonderfully weird it was. A full nine years later, die-hard fans of the first game will be able to roam the post-apocalyptic open desert once again in Rage 2, slated for release in May 2019. The action is set 30 years after the original game, and players will be stepping back into the shoes of the battle-hardened Ranger Walker, who may be old and cynical at this point, but he certainly hasn’t tired of putting tribal warlords and mutants in their place.

Gears of War 5

2019 is clearly the year of long-awaited sequels, as we’re finally getting another GoW over three years since the previous installment. The upcoming title, simply named Gears Vpromises to be a radical departure from the previous games in this bestselling sci-fi series. The third-person shooter format will remain, with Kait from Gears 4 embarking on a personal journey to rescue your family, rather than fighting in the human resistance army. The split-screen multiplayer story mode, which is a hallmark of the series, will continue to allow you to collaborate with your friends and work together to succeed.

Even if you’ve completed the brilliant sci-fi games already released this year, it’s clear that there is still a ton to look forward to. Mark these ones in your calendar if you want the second half of 2019 to be just as awesome as the first.

Have your say!
