PlayStation 4 Has Now Shipped 102.8 Million Units Worldwide, Now the Second Best Selling Console of All Time

Sony released their financial results for the three months ended September 30, 2019 today and in there they reported that worldwide total shipments for the PlayStation 4 have reached 102.8 million.

This makes the PlayStation 4 now the second best-selling game console of all time sitting only behind the PlayStation 2 which shipped 155 million units. The original PlayStation is third with 102.49 and the Nintendo Wii is fourth with 101.63 million.

Sony shipped 2.8 million PlayStation 4’s during the second quarter of their 2019 fiscal year which is down 1.1 million from the 3.9 million they shipped during the same time last year. Sony also lowered their forecast for this fiscal year from 15 million to 13.5 million. PlayStation Plus subscribers are currently at 36.9 million as of September 30, 2019 which is up 2.6 million from the 34.3 million subscribers they had at this time last year.

There was also 61.3 million software units sold during the second quarter this year which is down 13.8 million from the 75.1 million they sold at this time last year. Digital sales were bigger this year though with 37% of those sales this year being digital compared to 28% last year.
