Tonight at their CES 2020 press conference, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the latest sales numbers for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR along with some other information.
As of December 31, 2019 the PlayStation 4 has sold through 106 million units to consumers worldwide. PlayStation VR has sold through 5 million units and total software sales on PlayStation 4 have passed 1.15 billion units.
PlayStation Network was also said to be doing very well with monthly active users sitting at around 103 million users. PlayStation Plus subscribers have also risen to 38.8 million users. All of these are astounding numbers especially for a console so late in its life cycle and considering the PlayStation 5 has already been announced. Here is what Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan had to say in the press release:
I am very pleased to see that so many PlayStation fans value the unparalleled entertainment experience on PS4. This has been made possible by the support we have from our partners and fans since launching PlayStation in 1994, and I would like to truly thank everyone. We’ve consistently delivered innovative products like PlayStation VR, which has reached its five million unit sales milestone. There is much more entertainment experience to look forward to that the PlayStation ecosystem will provide that we can’t wait to share with our fans.
