Advertisements are usually annoying when you scroll by them or they interrupt your video while watching YouTube, but there are rare instances when you have to stop and applaud the creativity that went into certain marketing stunts.
One such recent example is the campaign by Belgian videogame retailer Game Mania. In honour of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s upcoming release, they revived an old viral video meme, known as Techno Viking.
The 2007 viral video was a perfect fit for the Viking theme of Ubisoft’s upcoming new entry in the Assassin’s Creed series and one bare-chested bearded blond guy and a camera later…marketing gold was born.
In their first video, the Techno Viking lookalike is going through their warehouse in a forklift made to look like a Viking-boat, getting the games ready to “ship”:
In the second video, Techno Viking is stocking the store and selling the game to a perplexed customer, with a nice upside-down waterbottle reference at 0:27.
In the third and (for now) final video, we see that Techno Viking also handles the delivery. Granted, your doorpost may not get through the experience unscathed, but at least you get a complimentary axe…
It’s a nice surprise to see videos like these in your feed when scrolling through social media and we thought it was so well executed it deserved some international praise.
