Evolution of Gaming

Gaming is one of the most preferred modes of recreation among the general population. The gaming world has continually undergone research, development, and innovation to provide its customers with the best game experience they can have. Gamers form vibrant communities to share their love for gaming. Online gaming is now one of the most enjoyed forms of gaming.

Early Origins

Ralph Baer was an important person when it comes to the development of gaming. He is known as the father of home video games, and his contribution was the Brown Box. You could play a game with your game partner using control cubes. In those days, you could only play simple sports games and board games. The Brown Box was then licensed to Magnavox, which developed it and released a system called Magnavox Odyssey, which is the world’s first game console, although Atari popularized it.

When computer systems and networks started developing and growing back in the 70s and 80s, electronic gaming came into the picture. One of the first forms of online gaming was on bulletin boards where players dialed onto through their modems. Players used the function of ‘play-by-email games that some companies made available.

Sega, Taito and Atari managed to intrigue people with arcade gaming back in the late 60s and early 70s. Atari, in particular, was very instrumental in bringing about the trend of gamer communities. Competitive gaming was on the rise, and arcade games saw themselves in malls, bowling alleys and other fairs in many places. Ping Pong was a popular and cherished Atari game in those days. America also saw multiplayer gaming machines, which two players then played on a single screen. These were very popular at restaurants.

How Gaming Evolved Over the Years

With home computers like Apple and the Commodore becoming very common in every household, these systems allowed gaming to develop much better. They provided with the much-needed technology and processing system to play better games. A user could use BASIC source code programs to create their games. Magazines started providing these source codes, programs and readers’ codes for people to participate in game creation.

These early home computers led to the positive development of multiplayer gaming. With the birth of LAN networks and the internet, there was a good foundation for games to become multiplayer and interactive-based.

By the 90s, there was some more sophistication in online gaming development, especially multiplayer gaming. Companies like SegaSoft, Gamespy, Heat.net and Mplayer were the companies that paved the way for this development. Games such as Quake and Unreal Tournament were extremely popular among the youth and are hailed as an important development when it comes to the evolution of the online gaming world. However, these games were then plagued with many problems that are easily solved by modern-day software.  These companies also found it hard to make significant sales in the way that gaming companies and developers now do.

When Sierra created the World Opponent Network (WON) in 1998, the gaming world started assuming a new and dynamic form as many multiplayer games came about. Half-Life and Counter-Strike continue to enjoy praise and popularity up to this day. WON was instrumental in bringing about the concepts of ‘server lists’ and ‘game lobbies’ for people to log in as players and connect for a game.

Among all these developments, Valve’s Steam has been one of the most important platform contributions to the gaming world. Steam is essentially a distribution platform that allows users to connect and play. Because of this networking and multiplayer feature, steam became very successful, with games like Counter-Strike, which remains one of the most preferred online multiplayer gaming choices. The market for online gaming was undoubtedly on the rise.

As internet capabilities became more advanced, the gaming community started seeing fascinating games like Runescape, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that changed the face of online gaming. Runescape allowed players all over the world to play against each other and communicate with each other in the game through a chat system.

And now, we see very sophisticated technology and realistic games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Team Fortress 2, Rainbow Six Siege and games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), which users can play both on mobile and PC.

Online gaming is so varied in all that it can provide, ranging from so many genres like action, arcade, online casino games, etc. Avid gamblers can now practice their strategy over the many online gambling sites and apps available.Gamblers have a safe and enjoyable experience over the internet using trusted online casino malaysia and other casino websites.

Mobile gaming is likely to overtake or become equally popular to hand-held console gaming because of smartphones’ sophistication and capability developments. And so, online mobile gaming now is a growing industry that enjoys huge user engagement.

In Conclusion

As one traces the development of gaming over the last twenty years, it is clear that innovation and inventiveness are incredibly high. We are likely to see fascinating developments in the coming years, with dedicated game developers competing against one another in one of the world’s most lucrative markets.
