Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that Austin, Texas based developer Bluepoint Games has been acquired and is officially joining the PlayStation Studios family.
Many of us expected this as when Housemarque was acquired a few months ago an official PlayStation account tweeted a different image welcoming Bluepoint Games to the family. It was then deleted with no comment being made but it was unlikely that was a simple mistake. Now it’s official but fans hoping for another remake from the studio that has become known for them won’t be getting one from the sounds of it.
Bluepoint Games president Marcos Thrush has said that the team plans to move onto an original title next which could mean a brand-new IP or a new entry in an existing franchise.
Our next project, we’re working on original content right now. We can’t talk about what that is, but that’s the next step in the evolution for us. The transition from remasters to remakes was to test ourselves and push ourselves harder for the next step.
The team’s last game, Demon’s Souls Remake, launched last November as a PlayStation 5 launch title and has sold 1.4 million copies worldwide since then. It will be exciting to see what the team has planned next especially with PlayStation’s full support now behind them.
