Mid-Season Invitational 2022 preview

The Mid-Season Invitational 2022 is the seventh in a series of major international tournaments in the live esports betting discipline League of Legends. Here is the latest news, especially regarding the final leg of the tournament.

More about the tournament

The winners of the spring splits of the 11 individual Riot leagues participated in the MSI. The start and finish dates were from 10.05.22 to 29.05.22. The venue was the BEXCO Conference Center in Pusan.

LCL did not send a representative this spring due to the cancellation of the LCL spring split. On April 21 it was also announced that LPL representatives will compete online from China due to COVID-19 pandemic and all teams will compete at 35ms to level the playing field.

Team distribution

In the 2022 tournament, all teams started the championship with a group stage where they were divided into three parts. Based on the results of the matches, the top six teams won berths to the second group stage. The top four teams in the world make it through to the final Playoff stage.

Group stage

The 11 teams are split into three groups – 4(A), 4(B) and 3(C). Groups A and B will play in Double Round-Robin format, Group C in Quadruple Round-Robin format.

The top two teams in each group advance to the next round. The last two teams are eliminated. All matches are Bo1.

Rumble stage

The 6 remaining teams play in a Double Round-Robin format. The top 4 teams qualify for the play-offs, the last 2 teams drop out. All Bo1 matches.

Knockout stage

The first team in the Rumble Stage will knock off the third or fourth placed team. Single-Elimination grid. All matches are Bo5.

MSI 2022 result

Royal Never Give Up defeated T1 in the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational final on League of Legends. The encounter ended with a score of 3-2.

The Chinese team earned $75k while their opponent took home $50k. Both teams were undefeated in the group stage, and finished first and second respectively in the Rumble Stage.

Prize distribution

11 teams raffled off an initial prize pool of 245,000 USD which was replenished during the event through the sale of in-game images dedicated to the tournament. The winner will get 75,000 USD. On top of that, they will receive special awards for selling in-game items in LoL.

  • 1st place: Royal Never Give Up – $75k;
  • 2nd place: T1 – $50k;
  • 3rd-4th place: Evil Geniuses, G2 Esports – $25k each;
  • 5th place: PSG Talon – $17,500;
  • 6th place: Saigon Buffalo – $17,500.
