Zombieland: Headshot Fever Reloaded Review – PlayStation VR2

The PlayStation VR2 launch lineup includes many games that were available on other virtual reality platforms but never on PlayStation. One of those games is Zombieland: Headshot Fever Reloaded from XR Games and Sony Pictures. It’s set in the universe of the 2009 movie and unlike the other Zombieland game that released years ago, this one is actually pretty fun. Here is my review of the PlayStation VR2 version.

This game reminds me a lot of those arcade shooters that many of us played back in the day like House of the Dead. You’ll be playing using the Sense controllers and have the option to play either siting or standing. This game is light on story as the gist is that you are a new person who has met up with the characters from the movies like Tallahassee although most of them are voiced by new actors. From here you jump into one of many different on-rail levels of varied difficulties and shoot zombies to rack up high scores. Levels are short and sweet as you can finish them in a few minutes usually which makes replaying them to get higher scores on the online leaderboards really enticing.

Shooting with the Sense controllers felt precise and satisfying and you get some nice feedback through the vibration, the adaptive triggers, and the headset vibration. Besides the basic shooting you want to aim to pull off as many double-taps as you can which is when you shoot a zombie in the head twice. Doing these enters you in a slow downed timed state making it easier to rack up combos and increase your score. As you play you can also unlock weapons and perks for them using the currency that you accumulate. You got pistols, SMGs, shotguns, and more and perks to make them all better. You can equip three perks at a time and they can grant things like increased currency rewards or reload assistance.

I didn’t expect much going into Zombieland: Headshot Fever Reloaded but I came away from it finding that I had a lot more fun with it than I expected. The shooting feels great and the levels being so replayable made me want to keep jumping back in to try and set a better score. If you are picking up a PlayStation VR2 and enjoy arcade shooters than don’t let this one pass you by.
