Could Super Mario Bros. Wonder Be Getting a Performance Boost on Nintendo Switch 2?

Super Mario Bros. Wonder marked a refreshing return to 2D Mario in late 2023, introducing bold visuals, creative level design, and the delightfully bizarre Wonder effects. It’s one of the smoothest and most polished experiences on the current Switch—but with the Switch 2 on the way, players are curious whether it could run even better on the new system.

Despite its strong technical performance already, there’s room for small enhancements. The game runs at 60 FPS and looks great in both docked and handheld modes, but higher resolution support, crisper image quality, and faster load times could all be benefits a Switch 2 patch might deliver.

Given how big of a title Wonder is for Nintendo—and how closely it released to the end of the Switch’s life cycle—it feels like a prime candidate for a minor but meaningful upgrade on next-gen hardware. Especially if Nintendo wants to highlight how the Switch 2 can elevate already-excellent games.

While no performance patch has been officially confirmed, the precedent is there. Other major titles like Tears of the Kingdom and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are heavily rumored to be getting Switch 2 enhancements. If Nintendo is boosting its most recent flagship titles, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is likely part of that group.
