The Wheel of Time game in the works; IGT gets license

A video game inspired by Robert Jordan’s 14-book series, The Wheel of Time, is being created by Iwot Studios’ new gaming division. This AAA open-world role-playing game (RPG) will be developed entirely by the Iwot Production Games team, headed by Craig Alexander, a veteran from Warner Bros. Games.

The studio plans a three-year development timeline and aims to release the game on PC and consoles. Iwot revealed the studio’s new games division will build on the global success of Amazon Prime Video’s ‘The Wheel of Time’ series, which is now in its third season.

Based in Montreal, a growing hub for game development, the studio aims to lead the interactive side of the company’s plan to expand The Wheel of Time into film, TV, and gaming. This gets fans of the book and series, including Stake German players, excited.

Iwot Studios, which was once Red Eagle Entertainment, gained the rights to Jordan’s book series for film, TV, video games, and comics in 2004. The studio is currently working on various projects in the Wheel of Time universe, including the ongoing TV adaptation and an action film titled Age of Legends, directed by Kari Skogland.

Iwot Studios CEO Rick Selvage told Variety that there will be strong continuity in their approach to the transmedia strategy for the Wheel of Time video game, TV series, and future films. ‘It’s an open-world game, and it’ll be everything with the ‘Wheel of Time’, Selvage said.

‘Everything that is covered in the books, as well as all the backstory elements of it. As we build out the world, it’ll be the entire ‘Wheel of Time’ world, it’s not going to be limited to one area or another or a particular age’, he added.

The studio plans to explore opportunities in film, especially with the project Age of Legends, which will provide many assets for marketing and fan engagement. This approach aims to cover the entire world of the series. Iwot Studios also revealed that The Wheel of Time book series contains over 2,750 named characters and offers a rich history and lore that can be explored.

IGT receives license to sell games in the UAE

International Game Technology Plc (IGT), a firm known for making gaming gear and providing content, has received a gaming vendor license in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This license comes from the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA).

The GCGRA notes that IGT is now one of seven companies that hold this type of license. In October 2024, another company, Aristocrat, claimed the first gaming vendor license in the UAE. Novomatic AG, a maker and operator of gaming equipment, was also given a license by the GCGRA in mid-April 2025.

This move marks a significant step for IGT as it expands its reach in the gaming market within the UAE, surprising gaming fans, including Stake deposit players. IGT plans to sell its gaming and digital parts to funds tied to Apollo Global Management Inc. for $4.05 billion.

The deal is set to close by the end of the third quarter of 2025. Once the sale is done, IGT will shift to focus only on lottery services and will change its name and stock symbol.

At the same time, Apollo will buy Everi Holdings Inc., a gaming tech supplier, for $14.25 per share in cash. Hector Fernandez, who recently stepped down as CEO of Aristocrat Gaming, will take over as CEO of the new company formed by IGT and Everi Holdings.

What is the CGGRA?

The General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) was established in September 2023 and oversees all commercial gaming in the UAE. It is led by Jim Murren, who was once the chair and CEO of MGM Resorts International.

The release of a new video game based on the Wheel of Time novel and IGT’s license approval are two events that show how the game world is full of both hope and change. All eyes are now waiting to see what comes next.
