Rockstar Games has partnered with Game Informer this month to feature Grand Theft Auto VI on the cover and alongside it comes many new details about the game.
The team says that the map is twice the size of the map in GTA 5 and it will feature an advanced weather system including tropical storms and hurricanes. This new dynamic system will allow different areas of the map to experience dramatically different weather conditions at the same time.
The system is made to reflect how the weather can really be in Florida which the city of Leonida is based on. You can have clear skies in one part of the map while watching heavy rain fall down just a short distance away.
“We have re-engineered our weather system to make everything much more localized and persistent, and really wanted the world to feel dynamically solid and achieve a sense of scale we haven’t felt before,” Owen Shepherd, vice president of art for lighting and rendering at Rockstar, told Game Informer.
“The world features new fully dynamic cloudscapes that roll across the map, these give us a broad spectrum of weather from the clear blue skies of a Miami winter to the vertiginous cumulonimbus clouds with sporadic lightning that you see most afternoons in the Floridian summer and autumn.”
Other details include how the team has obsessed about every part of the city including rooftops, alleys, building internals and more. NPCs also have a ton of variation when it comes to height, body type, musculature, stomachs, butts, skin types, freckles, moles, tans, hair, culturally accurate tattoo styles and more.
The game will also feature over 170 animal species including over 60 bird types, 30 land mammals, various fish, reptiles, and more. Some of the confirmed ones include flamingos, manatees, and pelicans. There will be multiple shark species, whales, rays, turtles, and jellyfish.
Animals will also display iridescence, bioluminescence, translucency, and feather types, plus will have new hair and fur systems for coats and pelts. Fur will be fully simulated and it reacts to human interaction like matting from dirt, clamping, getting wet, and different color and coat variations.
Finally, some of the various activities you can do include street racing, off road racing, kayaking, gyms, billiards, air boating, going to the zoo, jet skiing, base jumping, and more.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series on November 19.
